Exclamation New Design -- Needler

This is one of those "what was old is new again" designs. I had the pointy Estes PNC-55BB, and I went, "*Wait!* I've got a BT-50/55 section with a transition in the middle!" So this is what happens when components collide (at *extremely* low velocities ).

I also doublechecked the materials of the components, and changed the Estes "paper" tubes to "spiral/glassine," as well as juggling parachute sizes/materials and launch lug locations until I got fairly tolerable deployment velocities.

The basic fin shape is from my MIDI-Loader upscale of Craig's Mini-Loader design, but I shrunk the fins to 75% and multiplied them from 3 to 5... just because I could. <big evil grin>

Enjoy!

Thumbs up Cool!

Good design job with the Needler Jay and wow with the .8 deploymant velociry on the B6-4. Some day you are going to have to clue me in on the Screen Shots that you have been doing. They seem to be a real time saver for posting the flight specs info.

Another good design Jay.

James, to make a screen shot, just hit the "Prt Scrn" button on your keyboard to copy whatever is shown on your screen to the clipboard. Then open Paint or another graphics program and do Edit/Paste, and then save it as a jpg file.

John, that was the D-powered Black Brant II, #1958.

But unless one has slipped through the cracks, I don't think there was ever another kit using that cone.

(John, Sorry! I hit the "Edit" button again instead of the "Quote" button... This is getting annoying! Craig...)

John,

You can get two of the pointy PNC-55BB's in the Estes PNC-55 nose cone package, along with two PNC-55AC (Bullpup) nose cones. That's where I got mine.

Cheers,

Jay,

All right, now you have done it!

I am absolutely going to HAVE to build this design, and in all likelihood, I am going to have to build a bunch of them, just because they look so cool.

I'll have to put them together with my Vaqueros, in the section that I had set aside for my future TZ's. Because of that, I won't have any room for the latter, so I will have to expand. Grrr...

I have no one but YOU to blame for this!

MarkII

P.S.: Wait, what's that? You have another new design posted? Uh oh...

Sure there was. An upscale Estes Rogue. An upscale Satellite Interceptor. An upscale WAC Corporal.
Oh, you mean kits.

Hmm. Tau Zero. *Expand.* (calculating furiously) "If I upscale the ST-7 to an ST-10, then I would need, um... Okay, I'm gonna have to tweak the inner fins, but I could substitute a BT-70 for the ST-16 ring fin, and..." (looking up) "What?!? Did I say that out loud?"

Bill, what I meant was the Black Brant was the only stock Estes kit that used it. To my knowledge (admittedly fragile, at best) Estes never used the 55BB again, while they did use the 50BB on several kits (they're still using that one today...).

Here on BARCLONE, we've used the 55BB at least once. I used it back in 2003 to build a BBIII. Those designs you've mentioned would be great upscales to post here. Have you worked them up yet?
