"Thunderbirds" Interceptor
I have found my next project. Estes "Thunderbirds" Interceptor http://www.ebay.com/itm/Estes-Thund...t-/321568672062
John Pursley has done it again. His skins are really nice. |

I have always wander if this rocket (Interceptor) could be shorten up to make it look better. It always looks to long, and some what out of proportion. The tanks or whatever those things hanging off the wing tips also looked to far back. I would have put them in the middle of the wing tips, like on the F-104 jet. Don't get me wrong I still like the kit.
Has anyone tried to shorten it? Your right Thundergoose would be a good name for it. |

I just found that rocket on FeeBay and would like that scheme on the Estes Vincator.
Can't wait to see a Blue Angels version too!

Thunderceptor ok. ........... I like that.
I have my Interceptor all ready, just waiting for the skins. I'm expecting them monday. I might try to incorporate the Thunderceptor into the skin somewhere. |

FYI --- name Thunderceptor was already used on an actual aircraft (Republic XF-91).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republ...1_Thunderceptor One notable feature of this real aircraft is the "reverse taper" of the wings -- not only are the wings wider at the tips than at the root, but they're also thicker toward the tips than at the root. BTW, when you look up info, you'll notice that many aircraft manufacturers seem keep a particular theme: - Republic seem to have a lot of aircraft with "thunder" as part of the name (e.g. P-47 Thunderbolt, F-84 Thunderjet, F-84F Thunderstreak, RF-84F Thunderflash, XF-84H Thunderscreech, F-105 Thunderchief, A-10 Thunderbolt II, etc.) - Grumman is famous for "cat" theme (F4F Wildcat, F6F Hellcat, F7F Tigercat, F8F Bearcat, F9F Panther, F-9 Cougar, XF10F Jaguar, F-11 Tiger, F-14 Tomcat, etc.) - McDonnell has a "supernatural" theme (e.g. FH-1 Phantom, F2H Banshee, Voodoo, F3H Demon, XF-85 Goblin, F-4 Phantom II, F-110A Spectre, etc) - Lockheed has a "star" theme (e.g. Lockheed Vega, Lockheed Constellation, P-80 Shooting Star, F-104 Starfighter, JetStar, C-141 Starlifter, C-5 Galaxy, L-1011 Tristar, P3 Orion, A-12 Cygnus [unofficial - project was officially known as Oxcart], etc.) - Douglas often used a "master" theme (C-54 Skymaster, SC-54D Rescuemaster, C-133 Cargomaster, C-74 Globemaster, C-118 Liftmaster, etc) Last edited by naoto : 11-04-2014 at 10:15 PM. |

Have wondered if the scheme found on the F-104s used by NASA would look good on the Interceptor... Along similar lines, considering the similarity of appearance between the F-104 and the Estes Interceptor, I wonder how some of the various schemes that the F-104 would look on the Interceptor:

I agree with you naoto. I'm trying to draw a set of skins with a NASA scheme based on the F-104 now.
