Default 1/50 scale Saturn 1b

I started a build threat over at TRF and thought I'd post some pics here also.

This is a scratch build, basicly like Jeff Brundt did back in 98. All parts are from LOC and bt-56 tubes from Uncle Mikes. The body tubes are bacicly made up from tube couplers and stiffy tubes. All 5.38 centering rings were sanded down to fit the couplers and stiffy's.

Here's the progress sofar. Dry fitted next to a k-29 for comparison and a shot off the tank shroud I did today. And Gordy...if you tune in to this guess what.....I'll be needing some decals.

Last night I took my paper shroud pattern and traced out 8 sections onto some fiber glass cloth. Cut them out a bit over sized and glassed the shroud. This morning I got it all sanded down. Needs a bit of fill here and there but I think I'm happy with it.

I've been working on the fins the last few days. I took 1/8 balsa and laminated it to 3/8 inch and glassed it with either 4 or 6 oz cloth and west systems epoxy. Do you guys think they will work or should I go with plywood or built up and skinned with like .040 styrene?
They were a P.I.T.A to do but they look nice.

I've had the free versions a few times over the years. Guess it's time to download it again.

Fins are tacked on and waiting for fillets. Bottom wrap is made and just taped in place for photo.
