Two New Plans -- VR Probe 118 &&& VR Probe 124 -- Update
As mentioned, after I posted the first set of plans for these models, I started thinking (a truly dangerous activity -- don't try this at home... ) and realized there might be a better way to build the design. The following plans are improved, in lower overall weights, ease of construction, and flight performance.
New 18mm Weight: 2.5 oz New 24mm Weight: 2.25 oz New performance specs: C6-5........584'......Dv 25 FPS......36" launch rod C11-5.......553'......Dv 12 FPS......36" launch rod D12-5......1012'......Dv 8 FPS.......36" launch rod Enjoy!

Ding! Ding! Ding! I spotted his name on some other page concerning "Star Names", and how he contributed a method of producing new names for stars. His method was used for a while, but was replaced with (yet) another method decades later...

New Plan -- Simple Simon
You just have to know from the name that this model is not going to be complex or difficult. It's about as simple a design as it gets. My only drift from a simple 4FNC is that this is a 5FNC...
Length: 18.97" Diameter: 1.34" (ST-13) Fin Span: 3.84" Weight: 1.33 oz All motors reach flight velocity on a standard launch rod. A8-3......203'......Dv 3 FPS B4-4......467'......Dv 6 FPS B6-4......474'......Dv 10 FPS C6-5......990'......Dv 7 FPS Simple models get flown more often than complex models because there are fewer things to get broken. Enjoy!

New Plan -- VR Loader
This is another design in the VR class. VR means "Visual Range", and for this designation requires that the upper altitude not exceed 700' when using a "C" class motor.
Length: 37.65" Diameter: 1.34" (ST-13) Fin Span: 4.54" Weight: 2.09 oz C11-5.......624'......Dv 3 FPS C6-5........695'......Dv 16 FPS D12-5......1138'......Dv 19 FPS All motors reach flight velocity in the length of a standard launch rod. Enjoy!

Very Nice Craig
Very nice Designs Craig!
Have you notice with the five fin designs such as Simple Simon and others, that the five fins seem to be the most efficient as far as maximum static margin. If you use 4 fins the margin reduces and if you use 6 fins it will also reduce intead of increase. Just a funny thing I noticed with the five fin designs. JP James Pierson NAR# 77907 |

I guess I had not noticed it, but I'll start paying more attention to that in the future. It might have to do with shape and placement, too, so it's probably not consistent across every design. If it is, then we may have a "rule" to work with... Thanks, James!

New Plan -- Zenith
A good name from several companies. All of my television sets have this name, but it seems to have dropped from the market in the last eight years...
This is intended to be a payload carrier, and can lift 1 oz to an altitude of 2755' using the E6-6 motor. It is actually intended to be a sport VR-Class model when flown without a payload. This is how it will be listed. The model's fins are influenced by the classic Centuri design styling of old. Length: 29.78" Diameter: 1.32" (BT-55) Fin Span: 6.1" Weight (Empty): 2.43 oz [Flight data with 1 oz payload] E15-7......2509'......Dv 28 FPS......36" launch rod E6-6.......2755'......Dv 23 FPS......36" launch rod [Flight data with no payload] C11-5.......625'......Dv 5 FPS.......36" launch rod C6-5........688'......Dv 9 FPS.......36" launch rod E15-9......2555'......Dv 10 FPS......36" launch rod E6-6.......2939'......Dv 14 FPS......36" launch rod Enjoy!

New Image -- Arrowhead
A Schoolyard Sounder.
I wanted something similar to the old Estes Arrow, but not as large and using the 13mm motors. This is a 5FNC model, per James Pierson's comment about the fin count performance, instead of the 6FNC of the original Arrow. As for the name, I know James has a design called Arrow Head; this one is simply a play on the original Estes name. Length: 13" Diameter: 1.04" (ST-10) Fin Span: 2.54" Weight: 0.6 oz 1/2A3-4T......231'......Dv 22 FPS A3-4T.........529'......Dv 10 FPS Both motors reach flight velocity on a standard launch rod. Enjoy!

New Image -- Ocelot
Another Schoolyard Sounder, using ST-10...
I was looking at cat names on the web and came across pictures of this one. It's a small "big cat", which fits into my theme rather well. I'm not a very good duplicator of the ocelot's beautiful color coat, so bear with me on the 3D image... Length: 14.75" Diameter: 1.04" (ST-10) Fin Span: 5.3" Weight: 0.72 oz 1/2A3-2T......178'......Dv 33 FPS......36" rod A10-3T........388'......Dv 15 FPS......36" rod A3-4T.........407'......Dv 11 FPS......36" rod Enjoy!
