Marvin Miller was the voice of "Robbie" from the movie "Forbidden Planet" He was the guy on "The Milionare" TV show that handed out the $1,000,000 every week. He died in 1985. The voice of the robot (Just called "Robot") on Lost in Space was Duke Tufeld. He's still alive and doing Altoid mint commercials. Isn't the internet great!

You're both right! The robot the rocket was designed after was Robby from Forbidden Planet, and the regular cast member robot from LIS, "Robot", was not the same. HOWever... the Robby costume did appear in at least one LIS episode as an evil antagonist! (I watched way too much TV as a kid...)

New Plan -- Kinglet
This is a simple model, compared to some; more than others, perhaps. I was looking for something with good looks, but which could be whipped out in just a few hours of work. No open-frame fins this time, just flat, plain-panel fins...
Length: 18.4" Diameter: 1.59" (LT-150) Fin Span: 2.76" Weight: 1.43 oz A8-3.......210'......Dv 3 FPS B6-4.......554'......Dv 30 FPS C6-7......1244'......Dv 20 FPS All motors reach flight V in the length of a standard 36" rod. Use a 2" x 20" streamer for recovery. The high Dv on the B6 should not be as big an issue as it would be with a parachute. Enjoy! Late addendum: The shroud needed to be larger to clear the launch lug. I bumped it up from the ST-13 to the LT-150, and adjusted the fin trailing edge to match. The shroud is also 1/2" shorter.

New Plan -- Swallow II
Qualifies as a "Schoolyard Sounder".
An upscale of the small Swallow, but continuing to use 13mm motors. Even with the larger size, this model performs nicely. Recovers with a 2" x 20" streamer. Only two motors recommended for this model: 1/2A3-2T, A10-3T... 1/2A3-2T......101'......Dv 8 FPS A10-3T........287'......Dv 11 FPS Both motors reach flight velocity on a standard launch rod. Enjoy!

A design in the VR-class, this is a median-performance model which has an upper altitude below 700'. The deployment velocities are slightly elevated, but not excessive. Two New Plans -- VR Probe 118 &&& VR Probe 124
Here's a two-fer plan. You can build this model for 18mm motors exclusively, or build it for 24mm motors and use an adapter for 18mm. RockSim says the model is flyable on the 18mm "C" class motor, but you will need a 48" launch rod as this motor does not have enough initial thrust to get the model going quickly. The 24mm "C" has just the right spike to get it moving from a 36" rod.
You might get better results on the 18mm version when (or if) the 18mm "D" BP motors are released into the wild; higher-impulse 18mm AP "C" class reloadables are also a possibility. Using the "C" class motors, the altitude is under 600' and thus qualifies for the "VR Class" designation. The "D" motor gives the most impressive performance at just over 1000'. Length: 30.5" Diameter: 1.64" Fin Span: 5.04" 18mm Weight: 2.96 oz 24mm Weight: 2.72 oz C6-5.......532'......Dv 26 FPS......48" launch rod C11-5......516'......Dv 12 FPS......36" launch rod D12-5.....1007'......Dv 16 FPS......36" launch rod Addendum: Yes, I'm looking into a re-design of this model already. The idea of a central core ST-10 with an ST-16 outer sleeve makes more sense construction-wise than the current plan of having the ST-5 stuffer tube. It also allows more room at the top for the parachute. The current version limits the amount of wadding you can put in the tubes. The overall weight of a longer ST-10 should balance out the weight of the additional rings needed for the ST-5. Enjoy!
