When you're running a simulation, look on the "Flight Simulations" tab and select whichever simulation you want to check. DOUBLE CLICK the selection, and you get a "popup" which gives you the simulation results. Look down this page for "Launch Guide Data". There will be a line which says: "Minimum velocity for stable flight reached at:" some length value.

This is what you're looking for...

And so it is. Here's my Tau Zero on an A8-3:

Launch guide length: 36.0000 In.
Velocity at launch guide departure: 57.1096 ft/s
The launch guide was cleared at : 0.207 Seconds
User specified minimum velocity for stable flight: 43.9993 ft/s
Minimum velocity for stable flight reached at: 25.6164 In.

Thanks, Craig! You the man! (Or whatever the kids are saying these days. )

Cheers,

--Jay

Default New Design: Snaggle Tooth

Yeap, here I go again with those rounded fins again. This makes for an interesting design though. It's also a park flier as well.

PS. How are you guys, Craig or Jay, getting the flight info off of the flight data sheet? I try to right click to copy and paste but it will not do it.

Thanks Again and Enjoy, JP

I click on the "Simulations" tab and copy down the numbers I want using paper and pencil. *Sure,* it's backward, but it works.

Make that two of us. I do the same, and just double-click the simulations to check the launch guide lengths. Most of our designs work within the same 4-motor range anyway, so we usually only have about that many to deal with...

Default BARCLONE Tradewind -- Revised Fin Pattern

Attached is a new pattern for the main fins to this model. I have simplified the fin to a single main piece, with edge stiffeners for the critical end-grain areas. The new fin should be cut from 3/32" balsa sheet stock, 4" wide. The edge stiffeners can be cut from the scrap using a balsa stripper, or a steel ruler and hobby knife.

Cover the fin with self-adhesive label stock, or computer paper secured with 3M-77 spray adhesive, and you can eliminate the bulk of filling and sanding.

Default BARCLONE Tradewind -- Revised Booster Fin Pattern

Here is a simplfied one-piece pattern for the small booster fin. I believe this would be better served using Carl's 0.05" pressed paper material than balsa, as the balsa is too light and delicate. If balsa is used, the surfaces of the fins need to be reinforced with silkspan-dope, silk-dope, or a paper-laminate.

Lightbulb New Design: Torpedo 2

Here is a design I call the Torpedo 2 because the first version was really messed up. It is basically a elongated Scrappy in reverse. I hope you folks are not getting sick of these ping pong ball rocket design yet, because I am just getting started with them.

Here are some stats for Torpedo 2:

[1/4A3T-3] Maximum altitude: 112.38320 Ft. DV: 11.5729 MPH
[1/2A3T-4] Maximum altitude: 292.72933 Ft. DV: 6.5519 MPH
[A3T-4] Maximum altitude: 644.50787 Ft DV: 17.9274 MPH

All motors using a 36" launch rod.

PS. This design has no nose cone. I am using a Coupler Tube and a Bulkhead instead. I hope it will work the way I have planned. All opinions on this are greatly appreciated, JP

Thanks Again and Enjoy, JP

Lightbulb New Design: Spaceman 2006

This design is a new twist on an old idea. This chubby little guy seems to fly quite well and has Dv's of under 5. Its also a park flier using 1/4 and 1/2 A to fly on. I would post the specs, however my mouse is not working very well lately and is about to learn to fly itself out the window.

Thanks Again and Enjoy, JP
