Default Iconic, complicated or fun scratch builds ?

I'm slowly building up to the Saturn V (working on my mercury redstone tonigjt).
I've seen the vintage Star Trek kits (I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one or both).
But where's the love for the other sci-fi's of our youth?
Has anyone built a Colonial Vioer from Battlestar Galactica?
Buck Rogers?
The Last Starfighter ?

I could have sworn I saw a nose cone that had an angled flat face on it like the viper- anybody know what I'm thinking of?

If you search here or at TRF, you’ll find tons of Vipers. Estes kitted it in the late 70/early 80’s and people have cloned it and even upscaled it.

The Earth Forces Starfighter and Draconian Marauder (both from Centuri) are two of my favorites. I did this pair years ago.

I would have sworn I searched for viper builds here before.
I guess it was another search because there they are....

A few folks have done scratchbuilt Fireball XL-5 models.

This one by Dick Stafford:

In recent years, that has become easier thanks to 3D print files of the key parts (google). OK, here's one by Jamie Clay:

When I try to think of some sci-fi type models I have made flying models of, the main two I can think of were X-Wings. One was pretty big, about the size of the Estes Maxi X-wing, before it came out. Mine was all balsa. It was supposed to glide, but had "issues", so it used a chute. I had Laser Canons on it, but took them off for flight after a chute got tangled badly.

The other was a "skinny" fuselage X-wing, smaller, optimized to be a GLIDER. It had a clear plastic scissor-wing type canard that deployed 90 degrees at ejection. It glided fast, but pretty well all things considered.

Here's a 1978 photo of those two, plus an X-15. To give an idea of size, the X-15 was about 30" long.

Here in Colorado, very few of our sites have trees. We tend to prefer hard earth, rocks, and cactus to inflict damage and suffering.
