![]() I'd use either an Xacto hand saw or a cutoff wheel in my cordless Dremel.

Yup, cutoff wheel in a Dremel has been my go-to for music wire for decades….so when I started using these wiper spines that’s what I tried first. No reason to change.

![]() I do not like the thumb tabs some manufacturers add to motor hooks.
I use a small triangular file to cut a V-notch then use pliers to break it off. Bill

![]() I got tired of buying wadding so I use used dryer sheets now.
They seem to have about the same fire retardedness as normal wadding, maybe more. |

Buy sheet crepe paper at the party supplies area of department stores. Very cheap. That is all I have ever used since that is what Centuri used in my first starter set. And that was the ONLY rocket company supplied wadding I ever used: that supplied with my starter set. When I realized the ‘wadding’ supplied in my Screaming Eagle starter set was just plain crepe paper cut into roughly 3” x 4” squares, I went and bought a package of the sheet crepe paper and started cutting my own. Never bought any wadding from Centuri or Estes over the years. Have flow ‘model’ rockets with crepe paper wadding for 46 years. Earl

![]() Back in High School we just used plain Toilet Paper or Paper Towel and let it smoulder down to the ground. Would never do that now, but we weren't spending ANY of our rocketry budget back then on "flameproof" anything at 20x the cost.
We used cannon fuse ignition too. Far cheaper than that 'lectricul baloney.

I have read that dryer sheets may not be biodegradable and may even be toxic to animals. If you are flying at a club launch, do not be surprised if they want to "have a word with you." Bill

![]() I didn't think of the dryer sheets being toxic- although I only launch at home and police all my wadding. Im also pretty adament about picking up all the ignitors and plugs because I don't want a bird to choke on the colorful plastic.

![]() Thinking outside of the box..
I built a rocket around a hair dye bottle (screw on retainer + cardboard tube from vacuum seal bags- D motor trimmings as a mount to fill the gaps). I did another screw on with the neck of one of those aluminum beer "bottles". I was actually pretty proud of that one- I cut the neck to size match the cardboard tube from christmas wrapping paper. Fins matched the profile and overlapped. Unfortunately that was a C6 test so it was a one and done (disappeared into the forest) and I didn't get any pics. |
