DELTA III - ORION 3 Mission - Limited Data
It is difficult to locate images of the DELTA III Orion 3 mission . . . I found a couple.
The DELTA III 8930 rocket was #269. Dave F. Last edited by Ez2cDave : 11-08-2022 at 09:14 AM. |

The Delta III was about as successful as Starliner and SLS Artemis so far.

That post was a critique on the progress of Starliner and SLS/Artemis, not a criteria for building models. BTW, you do know that the Orion 3 on the Delta III was a Hughes communication satellite completely inside a clam shell fairing, right?

Yes, the photo's I posted were with some sort of "environmental control unit" in place. Those were the only large, clear images I could find of the Orion 3 mission. Obviously, the unit was removed prior to launch. Dsve F. |

Yeah, that part has been confusing me...not that I am all that familiar with that launch vehicle, but it sure looks like an Starliner capsule on top in the images posted along with the first message in this thread. Earl Edit: Changed “Orion” to “Starliner”.

No, it looks like some type of "environmental control unit". Orion 3 may have had some specific temperature range that had to be maintained ( likely to avoid overheating ). The unit would have been removed prior to launch. Dave F. |
