Field box????????
I don't have a.....box......
I carry so much stuff to the field it's not even funny. My "normal"stuff ............. Plano tackle box that has.........stuff.....(read, spool of kevlar, quick links, various wrenches, pliers, 29mm motor casings, closures(hobby and HP) Rolls of surveyors tape(useful for finding a rogue rocket in a !@%$^#CORN FIELD) cheap super glue(from grocery store)and accelerator. I've been asked numerous times if I had those 2 things, glad to see they are used. I have a plastic tote box that I put my HP reloads and S/U motors in, along with at least 2 or 3 ziplock bags"o"chutes, nylon and plastic. I also have a Stanley partitioned box that I store Estes motors in.I get them at Michaels with the 40% off coupon......LOVE that!!!! I divide them up in Alphabetical order. I have a box that "allegedly"fits under a bed. I can get a lot of LP rockets in as long as I don't put the lid on. A couple cardboard grocery store totes hold other rockets. High Power rockets are placed in the car as is. My intentions are to fly to the conditions, problem is that I end up yakking with everyone all day long......most of my stuff never flies, just gets packed up again . I've vowed to lighten up on what I bring. We do a solstice launch once a year, I brought the bare minimum, LP motors, maybe 6 rockets. LOTS more fun. I hope to continue the trend. FWIW Mark T |

For eggloft altitude, I used to recover using a streamer.... But I'd still love to hear the story of NARAM 49. PM me if you think it's too much off topic! |

Short.....actually, I think it was NARAM 48....... One of the contestants forgot to pack a parachute in his eggloft duration model. Needless to say, it came down rather quickly and impacted the hard Arizona desert. The RSO didn't DQ it for unsafe (guess the model created enough drag or it was coming down away from people, or he thought it would DQ because of the egg). Anyway, the egg survived. The contestant didn't do well for the flight but he did get flight points.......

There are lots of good suggestions in this 3 year old thread but personally, I think most flyers take way too much to the field. When you get to the point where you completely fill your car's trunk and interior with enough supplies to stock a hobby shop (vendors not included) and just for a routine launch, and it looks the flyer could be having a "serious relationship" with a rocket, then my friends, it's time to step back and get a grip.
It is of course every flyer's right to lug everything they own where ever they want to lug it and to whoever likes doing all that, I say have at it, but maybe, when it takes more time to set up and break down than the time spent flying, maybe it's gone too far. Randy www.vernarockets.com |

We just walk across the road to a corn field.
But, walking as far as we do, I take a lot to avoid going back home just for batteries or masking tape type items... |

I go back and forth on this, but I'm trying to lean towards "lean." The astronomy folks'll tell you the best telescope is the one you'll use, and I'm finding the same about my field kit. I love being utterly and completely prepared, but when the prep gets in the way of the flying, the fun drizzles away.

Usually, especially at NARAM's, the Sport Launch Range is a hefty walk from most everything.
I always carry one of those tiny tackle boxes that fit in your pocket. Just extra igniters and plugs. Tape and anything else you might need is usually at the check in table.

thanks for all the great ideas guys! I just put together a range box from a $15 large Stanley toolbox from wal-mart. A great deal considering the size.

Those are kept on the Swiss Army Knife... that's an everyday item, not limited to time in the field. .
