Thanks for the background there Roy. Yep, exploded in growth since the late 60s and early 70s, just about like everything else in the Atlanta area. Wow. Places out south of Atlanta where we lived back in the day just aren't even hardly recognizable today. Places that were total fields, grass, and small pines were built over in stores, malls, gas stations, etc, etc, etc. I remember making my first trip back to the area where we had lived and moved from in 1970. It was 1986 at the time (in Atlanta for a business meeting and drove out one eve while still light to look around the old digs). In that ensuing 16 years, the general area (around Morrow) was just unrecognizable. I felt like Charlton Heston in the closing scene of Planet of the Apes. I found ONE landmark I recognized and I could then 'place' myself to what I 'had known' the area to be. I was floored. Earl

Generally, I was always the one taking pictures. I was rarely, if ever, in them. But here's a couple.
group of rocket friends in early '69 (I'm in the middle holding the Big Bertha). Me in 1981 for an article in Atlanta Journal Constitution (as dorky as I look there, I wish I still were that skinny)

Nice period pics, Roy. Have you kept up with the others in the top photo or otherwise know their whereabouts or well-being today?
In the AJC, what was the general ‘thrust’ of the article (no pun intended)? Earl

The kid to my left was my best friend at the time. His dad was a dairy science professor and they moved in 1974 from Athens, GA to Athens, OH (they were from Ohio, so it made sense). Have not heard from him since. The other two kids were brothers, they moved back to their parents' home town in Alabama. The AJC article was one of a series of articles about "air sports and the people who build flying machines for fun." This one was titled "Hobbyists Navigate Their 'Toys' To Miniature Victories", and featured me, a couple of RC plane flyers, and a competitive kite flyer.

Wish I could find some old pictures of some of my rockets. So much easier these days to take pictures vs the 70s and 80s. All these old pictures, does anyone have recent pictures of their old builds from back in the day?

This has only a tiny bit of a rocket in it, but it is of me, John Langford, and Willard Arbour, in one of the prep areas at NARAM-13 in Aberdeen, MD.

I too had a pony tail—in the late 90’s. “The Vixen” said it made me look like an old, alcoholic, pervert. I said to her, “I’m not THAT old.”
