FAILS! - A new addition to the forum section?
Hello all!
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about a specific place for all of our rocketry FAILS! I don't know anyone in charge here just yet to post the idea to, but I think not only would it be kinda funny, but we could probably learn quite a lot from watching videos or pics of other members mishaps. I've never had or seen I think it's called "zippering?" of a rocket, or launch. I'm sure EVERYONE here has had some kind of rocket malfunction, and I for one would LOVE to see what is actually possible when "Good Rockets Go Bad"! lol! Any ideas or takers? What I refer to as “zippering” is simply the ripping of the forward end of the main body tube caused by the shock cord. Not really a spectacular failure—more of an annoyance.

My Main Man JeffyJeep! Good to see you chief! I just assumed it was the unraveling or delamination of the main body tube... Or something similar. Thanks for clearing it up. I'd love to see a picture, if you had one! Just so you all know... JeffyJeep is the one who recommended me to this forum, so IF and more importantly WHEN you all hate me, He's the one to blame!!! Dear TigerHawk, I didn't understand your post, I thought you were just playing with me! Or just razzin' the new guy... So I went to the website you posted. Are you serious? I'm gonna assume you are, and figure out how to proceed. That was the maiden voyage of my beloved E2X Series SkyWinder rocket. I never got to see it fly, as it was destroyed, and when I first posted here, someone even tried to BLAME ME for the failure! The Estes C6-5 engine is still welded in it! Lol. I'll post more pics here, on the original thread post. Thank you for the information. You guys are so knowledgeable about all things, Model Rocketry! That's originally why I came here, to learn from you all, and it's been everything I'd hoped it could be. Shaggeh. |

CMASS's last launch had a serious CATO where the rocket exploded and burned having someone put it out with a fire extinguisher.
Nobody got it on video, too bad, it was somewhat exciting.

Kind of weird, from the picture of the launch we can see that the delay train and ejection charge are being blown out of the top of the rocket and the motor is still thrusting ? You can see flames at both ends of the rocket at the same time.
If I hade to guess I would say that this motor was dropped on a hard surface somewhere. I hate it when I drop perfectly good motors, and I have learned not to trust them. So my friend Jason Bloom and I get together to fire them in a test stand, we also fire real old motors and others that we do not trust. We have had some real good CATO'S.
