Default Blood Test

Blood Test.

When I got married for the first time, My future wife and I had to take a blood test.
I asked if I could study for it.
They said it wasn't necessary.
Why did they do this?
They were doing this since the 50's?
What for?
It is not done today. Why?

Huh

Yeah. But I don't remember the episode.

Is it because of the aliens?

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.

The main thing is to see if you and your spouses blood types are not both negative or positive
none compatible, I am not sure which it is, but I think if you both have the same negative or positive blood you run a risk of producing offspring with birth defects.

Good article over at Mental Floss on the reason why blood tests became a thing in the 1930s and why they have been phased out over the ensuing years. The root cause was the rising rates of syphilis in the 1930s and a massive federal education campaign to combat the disease.

This is what is known as the Rh (Rhesus) factor. When you hear someone say their blood is A+ or O-, the positive and negative is the Rh factor.

The problem comes in if a woman has a baby that has a different Rh factor from herself. The woman's body will develop antibodies and these antibodies can cross the placenta and begin attacking the baby's blood.

For example, I have A+ blood type but my wife is O-. When both our daughters were born they were A+. The result was my wife received several injections of Rh immunoglobulin to prevent the sensitivity to the baby's blood type.
