Regarding his motor-making books, an ideal solution all around might be POD (Print-On-Demand) publishing. CreateSpace.com www.createspace.com and Lulu.com www.lulu.com both do this (Lulu.com POD publishes my book). It costs the author (who retains the copyright to his or her work or works) nothing, as the POD publisher makes a percentage on each book sold. The POD publisher also handles all book order-taking and shipping, and provides the author with a continuously-updated list of book sales and royalty amounts. Such an arrangement--if Mr. Sleeter wished to go with it--would enable him to get his books back in print at no cost to himself, and it would make his books readily available to the amateur/experimental rocketry community again.

EVERYTHING, including his newest book, except for the Supplements you have, is already in the Public Domain . . . The "Genie is out of the bottle", and has been for quite some time ( years ) . Anyway, update, if it's OK for us to SWAP files ( Teleflite Book in exchange for Supplements) Thanks ! Last edited by Ez2cDave : 09-03-2013 at 01:18 PM. |

At least, for the time being, this now appears to be a dead issue, without getting permission from David Sleeter. Hopefully, that will happen, but it's not the "end of the world" if it doesn't . . . Later !

As I understand copyright law, they generally run for fourteen years.
http://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pw...8&CNT=25&HIST=1 http://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pw...6&CNT=25&HIST=1 I think every reasonable attempt to contact Mr. Sleeter should be made before anyone copies or redistributes his original work. Test
TEST (I've been getting "Forbidden" messages; Scott asked me to try a test posting here, to see if his fix for this problem is working.)

Other than the fact that I'm still alive (which nearly ceased to be the case in late February and early March of last year, due to MRSA and pseudomonas infections), no. My active phase in model rocketry is over, and has been for several years. My flying field is gone (I wasn't kicked off it; the family that owns it took it back for other, private uses after the local horseman who had the free use of it died), walking more than a few feet at a time is like a marathon to me now, and being bent over--due to ankylosing spondylitis--so that I can't look up unless I'm seated in a semi-supine position, I can't follow the rockets' ascents. Also:
The last time I tried it, not long before I lost my flying field, I couldn't follow the rockets much beyond the level of the upper edge of a low, distant mountain ridge. I almost got impaled in the scalp by the protruding motor clip of a descending UP Aerospace SpaceLoft (which I couldn't see until it landed near me), and I could only turn my body--not very rapidly (my neck barely turns, and my spine is very stiff)--to try to visually re-acquire the descending rockets as they fell back within my field of vision. It wasn't fun anymore, but a harried experience. (I've lost rockets before, as virtually all of us have, but I had never before been *physically* unable--due to internal causes, rather than external ones [the Sun's glare, poor contrast against the background sky, etc.]--to follow them.) As well: I bought a radio-command ignition system (a Made-in-China multi-channel job that was developed to remotely ignite firework devices) off eBay awhile back, so that I could stand farther from the launch pad and follow the rockets' ascents "from the side." The loss of my flying field made it academic, but even if I got it back (or got a new field), in my state of health it would be a miserable experience to fly and recover model rockets. I haven't related all of this to pour out bitterness (I'm not bitter about it; I now do occasional historical research on old kits & parts, I'm helping a friend of mine re-start my old rocket company, Nova Hobbies, and I write--although each article takes months to write because I now have a lot of "bad days"--interstellar spaceflight-related articles for "Centauri Dreams" www.centauri-dreams.org ), nor am I seeking sympathy in revealing these things; I just wanted to chronicle what has happened. Some of us die suddenly (or at least relatively quickly) after a life of more-or-less good health, while some of us undergo a long decline, but I have good news: If you're in the latter category, it need not be a time of despair; it certainly hasn't been for me, and if *I* can be happy in the face of such circumstances, anyone can!
