Default The Bat - 2012

I am looking for an Estes kit #1362 of "The Bat". Since I haven't had any luck finding one, I decided to take things into my own hands and create a 2012 version of the 1982 classic.

I started out with the new Estes kit #7217 "The Hyper Bat" and modified it to resemble the original. I took the main fins and cut off part of the inner portion and then glued them on upside down. The rest of the kit was very easy to assemble, but what to do about the "Far Out" decals as the 1982 catalog calls them?

I'm a high school teacher and have a very talented former student that is now an architect in Seattle. I sent her my idea and in no time at all, she sent back an AutoCAD drawing of the new decals. I printed them off on self adhesive vinyl, trimmed them to fit, applied them, and then shot a coat of lacquer over the top.

If anyone is interested in making one of these for yourself, I can send you a fin pattern and a set of decals for $25.00.

Cool. I've never seen one of these outside of the catalog.

I have the decals in waterslide. Now I show it in black but that's because white won't show on the monitor.

I print it in white.

I have changed it slightly from the picture shown on my web site. The model has three fins, but with a little rearranging I provide a sheet with 4 sets. One extra set.

Your decals are for the original Bat from 1982 right? The decals (which are actually self adhesive vinyl) that my former student made are slightly different in size and shape than the originals. They had to be in order to fit onto the modern fins. Here is a picture of the old one and the new one side by side.
