SLS Explorer
Title: SLS Explorer
Kit number: KV-56 Background Information brief: The Centuri Explorer was introduced in the 1967 Catalog as a member of the Centuri Large Scale Series. It was shipped with 3 Hercules Port Burning F10-4 engines. It was originally released as Centuri #KF-9 and was shipped via Railway Express since it included engines that could not be shipped Parcel Post. The initial price was $9.95 including engines. In 1969 it was offered as a kit only with part # KF-9a for $7.50 and included Parcel Post shipping. The later Explorers were shipped with three F94-7 engines. The Retro-Repro SLS Explorer is updated with precision laser-cut basswood fins instead of the hard balsa pre-printed fins used on the original. The Sil- Ray cloth fin reinforcement is replaced by a slotted tube and through-the-wall fins. The original Explorer had a wire shock cord mount which is replaced with an ejection baffle with Kevlar® cord for greater reliability. A removable 24mm engine mount adapter is included. Several other removable 29mm mounts are offered as options to increase the selection of engines that can be used. Announced in Semroc Minute 1, July 24,2006:
Looking forward to NARAM-48! We are packing up for NARAM-48 now. I can't believe it is so close. We have been preparing for this since we got home from NARCON. Semroc is proud to again sponsor the Division A trophies for this NARAM. Six New Kits Finally, we have finished many of our kits that have been "in the works" for so long. Four of our new kits are the final members of the original Centuri Large Scale Series. They are the SLS Hustler, SLS Aero-Dart, SLS Explorer, and SLS Lil' Hustler. Since we found out that NARAM-48 would be held at the home of Centuri, we wanted to get all six of these classics back in the Phoenix skies again! We will be launching several other Centuri classics and hope you will join us with your Centuri classics if you are planning on attending this NARAM. We hope we can fly a lot of them on Sunday morning at the sport launch. The Taurus and the Point fill out our new line. Last edited by 5x7 : 03-25-2023 at 08:40 AM. |
