There was a bit of a controversy when people were certifying with saucers.

The rules changed to require "active recovery." I thought that meant ejecting a parachute or at least a streamer, so I looked it up.

You are good to go if it falls slowly enough.

Hmmm.
I hadn't thought about the larger scaling not rotating fast enough to bleed off energy. Mr. Twisty doesn't have any BT damage after 5 launches- including that motor failure but I launch in a soft field and we've had a lot of rain lately (that motor failure buried the nose cone 5 1/4"). I'm back to wondering if a 3 fin design might do better.

Thanks for the link Bill. Looks like a Tazz design follows the updated guidelines for "recovery deployment" and "helicopter".
I'm obviously nowhere near ready for a high power build but that could help my decisions in the future.
Unfortunately I'm in the middle of nowhere and the "local" rocket club wpuld be a few hours away.

Back on topic-
I usually build and then dope wings- I honestly don't know what the preferred order is. But with the uprights and hinges and rubber band mounts I decided to dope&sand before assembly this round.
I'm finishing up the motor mount/lock ring assembly install now. Depending on how motivated I am with sanding I might get it finished this week.
Once again thanks for all the information.

Simplified motor mount/aileron lock.
Alignment bosses to lock into BT not installed yet to make it a little clearer what's going on. (I've never tried to explain a build before).
Centering/seal rings are a little thick because I didn't want any failures either at ejection or from a hard landing.

Possible name list so far:
TWISTED's SISTER
Spinderella.
Lynard Spynard
Twist & Chute
Screwed McDuck
All Over Twist
The Taming of the Screw
A Tale of Two Spinnys
(This) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

This has been worrying me.
I've gone back and watched videos of Mr.Twisty and his rotational speed is much slower than Tazz.
Ya he works and is doing fine after 5 launches, but now I'm going up in scale again.
I have all the fins here and it looks like they've hardened up after doping but I'm staring at the main fins and the surface area is massive- I'm visualizing the drag these ar going to cause trying to spin.
I'm wondering if I "skeletonize" the primary fins if that would help with this issue.- I'm sure it would reduce the rotational drag but what other issues develop? Will it causes vortices and destabilize flight?

Progress has been made.
Weight is on target for sub 300g if I don't go too heavy on the paint (for once).
Just need to glue on the motor mount alignment boss' and launch lugs.

"TWISTED's SISTER" was the working title and it failed the full committee vote so this ship will be commissioned as "Spinderella".
Colors and graphics have been chosen.

Construction phase should end tomorrow and I can move into paint and finishing. Hoping for a Friday/Saturday dusk launch- weather permitting.

I need to update a couple templates but I'll get those scanned if the launch is successful and adapt to the High Flier XL/Mr. Twisty size also and get those posted. Hopefully someone somewhere someday will build one of these.

Also borrowed my buddy's 3d printer if anybody has a source for the proper ratiio ogive NC for a BT101.

Stay tuned......

Complete and primered.
A few things to tidy up but everything is aligned and functioning as planned.
I'll sand out the imperfections and hopefully get color applied tomorrow.
Before paint it weighed in at 250g even.

Is it 24mm or 29mm power ?
I'd bet a D12 would only take it to about 200'.

24mm.
95mm length for an E but I'm planning on first launch with a D12-3.
Since the motor assembly ejects I could in theory make another one for a 29mm but I honestly don't have the space at home.
I don't have many choices close by, as far as I'm aware any public launch site of any meaningful size would be a day trip.
I stick with B motors mostly with some C/D powered flights in heavier rockets like E-SAM and Olympus.

I'll be happy with 200 feet.
Rain is forecast for later this week but Saturday evening or Sunday may have low enough wind for a launch window. And the soft ground from a recent storm will surely help with this initial landing.
I may add a drag Chute with a fishing swivel and see if I can still get the twist with a lower velocity but I want to atleast try an unaided recovery first.

It's painted.
I didn't go full tilt on the finish to save weight- I usually don't weigh my rockets during the build so not sure how much is really added by filling spirals and multiple paint coats but I'm trying to cut as many grams out as possible.
Current weight is 287g.
This should be last post before launch day.
Weather forecast had an opening tomorrow evening. After that I'll probably have to wait until Sunday evening.
Calculator says 71m altitude with a D12 with an ideal ejection delay of 2.68s so I should be good with a D12-3.
Video as soon as I launch....

Alright one last pic before launch day.
Ship was commissioned in a private ceremony inside the production hangar.
