Semroc Astron and scan of instructions
Thanks to All! Just need version 1 unslotted tube version items if anyone has them.
I am looking for a North Carolina version of the Semroc Astron and scan of the instructions There were at least two versions of the Astron, throgh the wall fins were introduced after one year, and there may be bulk packaged kits as well as ones with regular facecards. I have one with a Dayton address from erockets and it is a really nice kit. I am trying to document Semroc history and I have not been able to find images of the North Carolina Astron kits or any version of the instructions. Last edited by 5x7 : 02-20-2023 at 09:49 AM. |

My spreadsheet says I have an Astron kit in the stash. I've also built one, and just found the instruction sheet for it in my file for such things. I'd scan it for you immediately but....like lots of Estes kit instructions from "back in the day" it's on legal-sized paper, and my scanner isn't that big. How would you like it to be broken up?
This version has TTW fins....but they go on before the motor mount goes in, so they don't attach to the motor tube. There is no date on it that I can find.

I checked my Semroc instruction 'archive' and the Astron is one of few instruction sets I don't have. Thought I had it....sorry.

I also looked at the Astron kit in my stash. It has slotted tubes as well, so there's likely no additional information to be had by opening that one.

Thanks! I don’t know how the instructions were laid out, as long as the scans capture everything that would be great. If you have an iPhone, in the Notes app if you tap the camera button it brings up an option to scan, and the camera alone it does a great scanning job if the lighting is good. I am looking for pictures of unopened kits, front and back as well.

OK - I have the instructions off to my left here....I'll see if I can try using the scanner function on my iPhone. I'll probably have to tape the corners down or something to get them to lie flat enough. The kit I mentioned is not too far down in my stash. I can pull it back out and get those kit shots, too.

Let's try this....
iPhone scans, and pics of both sides of the sealed kit I have.
I also found a copyright 2010 notation on the exploded view build instructions that I didn't see last night. I can still put the instructions in a flatbed scanner, bearing in mind that it doesn't do 8 1/2 x 14, so there will be overlaps. I also found my built model, and it shows pretty clear evidence why streamer recovery and that fin shape, especially out of 1/16 balsa, is a bad combination. Two of them were glued back together after a break pretty much from root to outboard edge at the base of the body. added: flatbed scan in four pages. Only the first is in color, the others are 16-bit grey to keep the file size down. I'll be filing the instructions now....
