Peaceful rest to you, George. We’ll miss your posts and your vast knowledge.

Default Very sorry to learn about this---

I never met the man in person, but he was a true giant in our hobby. I had a few contacts with him via PMs and emails, and he was always very helpful and friendly. A great inventer, coach, and contributor. He leaves behind a huge empty space on the flying field.

I was definitely shocked when I got the news on Facebook yesterday. He had only announced his diagnosis on May 10th. Since George mentioned that the doctor had given him maybe a year, I figured I had time to process the dire news and find the words with which to reach out to him. But, that never happened. I feel horrible for even waiting now. George was a wonderful, caring person. He loved model rocketry. And he loved sharing his wisdom and enthusiasm for a hobby that never got old. To me, George was kinda the Yoda or elder statesman of model rocketry. He and I became friends when I joined the Birmingham Rocket Boys in 2009. We still remained in touch after he moved to Minnesota. I’m gonna miss you George with your friendship, weirdness, wisdom, and wonder.

Fair winds and following seas, my friend.

Hello. Happy Thanksgiving

I was just a child in Huntsville when I met George. I joined HARA in A division in the 80's and George was the go to man for any and all questions about rockets. I spent my youth flying with and learning from him. His Little Joe II was the coolest scale model I had ever seen. He taught me attention to detail and how to sand an airfoil and everything else I know today about rockets.

I remember his sun seeker. I was in awe of the sidewinder platform that did exactly that towards the sun. The gimbal version was smooth and accurate.... Until he attempted a fin-less flight, we all did the panic dance around the launch site as it flailed at us.... George laughed.

I thank God for letting me learn from the man. I looked him up because I am going to build a Little Joe II and was hoping to reconnect after 30 years, then I read of his passing and was crushed.

God bless George and all who loved him.

You will be forever missed. Godspeed
