NASA Selects New Astronaut Candidates
I'm feeling really old now. NASA recently named 10 new astronaut candidates. Of the ten, only two were born in the 70s; and both of those are basically latter 70s. All the others were born in the 80s!
Nobody born in the 80s should be old enough by now to be an astronaut, should they?? NASA story: https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/...future-missions Earl

All the Mercury 7 were in their 30's when selected.
Gordo Cooper the youngest, who turned 32 a month before. Oldest, John Glenn, age 37. Anyone born in the 80's, are age 31 to 41.

Yeah, all true. My basic point (disbelief almost) is that the 80s — which *seem* like yesterday to me — is already long enough ago (as you point out) to provide time for new-borns from then to be old enough (and educated and experienced enough) to be selected as astronaut candidates now. Just does not seem possible. But the sad fact (and the relentless march of time) is that it IS possible. Thirty-some odd years just goes by much faster than it used to! Earl

30 years sure does go by fast.
I was 21 back 30 years ago. The 80's sure seem like yesterday to me as well. I graduated high school in 1988. I found college to be a far more worthwhile and life-enhancing experience. Those were really fun times.

Chief Astronaut Reid Wiseman introduced the class and said "this is the golden age of space exploration". He wasn't around in the 1960's so maybe he's off the hook for that statement.
