I note with interest the reduced Dv using the A8-5 over the A8-3, as well as a 30' gain in altitude. Very nice.

This is considered a "stablemate-sibling" to the Stryker. I like the performance of this version, as it gets a little better altitude and has gentle Dv numbers. General construction is similar to the Stryker, with minor main wing changes and a different V-Fin shape. I eliminated the V-Fin tip probes to simplify the finishing.

No particular name for this design just an vintage Buck Roger's design here. This design was quite a challenge for me with its cigar shaped body and forward wings. It requires a 48" launch rod as well. I also believe it falls in the VR class.

Secret Revealed: I have recently found a new sorce for inspiration. I have been using and abusing E-bay lately and doing searched for vintage sci-fi stuff and man did I find bunches. Everything from the sci-fi magazine Amazing Stories to early Buck Roger's Tootsie toys. Many, many cool photo's to save for future designs.

I spotted the nose cone and body tube on the SEMROC website, and thought I'd toss an old favorite together to see what could be done. Mercy!

This is a 1.885X upscale of the long-body Cherokee-D, using Carl's BTH-70 tubes and his BNC-70HAC nose cone. The fins are TTW G-10, 1/8" thick. I used the LT-150 tube for the motor tube.

The last motor in the list -- the I240-15 -- pushes the model to 1167 FPS, which is greater than Mach 1 at 70 degrees F. Now, only an experienced HPR builder can tell if this design would even hold up to that stress if built lightly, the way RockSim would expect it to be. I make no predictions beyond what the simulator suggests it could do. This is a genuine "what if", and I only offer it as a possibility.

Here is a new design I call the Nomad Explorer. It uses as 18mm motor mount and fall in the VR class of designs. With this design instead of simulating some tube fins for exterior pods I am using some rounded end fins with three short tube fin rings around them to simulate the exterior pods. Just trying to be original here.

Recently I have had some time to finish building the Cosmic Poo design. I will post some photo's if we get a warm spell of weather so I can primer it, otherwise it may have to wait until Spring.

Nice upscale of the Cherokee-D Craig. I think a Cherokee-D upscale in that size would be just right and given the new BNC-70HAC Secant Ogive you wouldn't need to have a custom nose cone turned.

At first glance your design seemed a bit heavy at almost 29 ounces dry weight for a rocket that size. A 46" long Public Missiles Callisto with G-10 .063 thick fins and heavy phenolic tubing with a 38mm MMT and piston ejection weighs in at just under 25 ounces dry in the design file and that includes a 6 ounce mass object for epoxy/paint and tweaking.

Semroc has the BTH-70 tubes listed as 2.175" ID x 2.247" OD with a .036" wall thickness. Your OD for the tubing is set at the same OD as the BNC-70HAC nose cone, 2.497" OD. I'm not sure if those Semroc dimensions are correct but by sizing the tubing to the same OD as the nose cone accounts for an extra almost 9 ounces of added weight.

Since the Semroc BTH-70 wall thickness would be correct at .036" given the stated tubing dimensions, should the BNC-70HAC nose cone really be 2.497" OD or I wonder if that is a typo? I would think it should be 2.247" as well?

Thanks! The web site has been corrected. The correct diameter is 2.247". The tube was designed for multiple uses:
1. Thicker wall BT-70 for TARC rockets.
2. 1/2 scale ARCAS body tube for SLS ARCAS.
3. Tube coupler for LT-225 tubes (reason for the .003" undersize.)

The planned SLS ARCAS is the reason for the 1/2 scale nose cone. The original BNC-55AC was designed for the Estes ARCAS and later "re-used" for the Cherokee-D. The BTC-70HZ is the balsa boat tail for the SLS ARCAS.

Hawk Hobbies has a great Cherokee-3D that uses the slightly bigger version of the BNC-55AC. I wish we had have thought of that one first. 3 D engines!

And now the model has been corrected to show the adjustments. I changed the model to use a P6 Altimeter and the CPR2000 parts kit. The mid-body coupler is now sealed at both ends with 1/8" AC plywood and holds the altimeter and the deployment charge kit. Imagine the model to still deploy from the nose, but it should separate at the coupler for prepping and maintenance, using screws to hold everything together. You can use up to 12" long motors, either reloadables or single-use types in the mount.

Any additional components required will affect the results, but probably not by much unless we're talking several ounces.
