Default `Tis the season!

Dear National Weather Service:

Happy April Fool’s Day to you too.

Oh well. I bought some spray paint anyway.

But it did warm up more in the late afternoon, enough that I decided I could get away with stinking up the outside world a bit. I started by giving a thin CA treatment to the V-2 nose cone:

Then I decided to officially inaugurate painting season by putting primer on the Bohica’s Dead Ringer. The Lunar Eclipse Jr. has been waiting for primer longer, but it’s big enough that I want to rig up something better than an engine casing on a stick to support it. Besides, I’m less emotionally attached to the Dead Ringer and I figured, who knows, something might go wrong.

Something did, kind of. I grabbed a can of Rusto Automobile Primer and started spraying the body tube… and ended up with a black rocket. I was expecting gray. I didn’t even know I owned any black primer! Wonder when I bought that? Well… I went ahead and used it.

Then I roughed up the nose cone with a fine sanding pad, wiped it down with a tack cloth and then alcohol, stuck it into a spare body tube (which I then covered with a plastic bag, because it may not be as spare as all that) and hit it with the Rusto Plastic Primer. Which is white.

I haven’t even quite decided what finish color(s) the Dead Ringer’s going to be. If I decide I want the nose cone and body the same color, I guess I’d better reconcile the base coat first.

Or maybe I’ll just make the nose cone a different color intentionally. Purely for aesthetic reasons, you understand.
