A $500 model rocket kit: the Argo D4 Javelin from North Coast Rocketry
Curious what a $500 scale model rocket kit looks like? Here's an unboxing video featuring the new Argo D4 Javelin from North Coast Rocketry.

Thanks for posting this. This is obviously a well thought out kit for a targeted buyer. I found your comment on the accessory bag regulatory requirement interesting/funny! What’s with that? This is out of my price range, but I would have had a harder time not considering it if it had been a different sounding rocket, namely the Astrobee 1500. I just find that particular one a more interestingly odd design. I have the Saturn Press version.
Cheers! |

I have nothing against the kit. It looks great and I'd love to have one. However, I think I'd spend my $500 on a 3D printer before I'd spend that much on the kit.

You could certainly do that and end up with a very nice model, but the parts from a $500 printer would look nothing like the SLA parts included in this kit. There's a huge gulf in quality between laser/resin SLA parts and parts extruded from weed wacker filament. Last edited by rocket.aero : 04-05-2021 at 03:41 PM. |

I understand that, but the weed whacker would allow me do other projects as well.

I WANT ONE!!!
Heck, I can even afford it if I want to... My main reservation is that my build pile is already huge, and keep telling myself I'm not going to buy any more kits to build until I get some more of the existing pile handled (granted, this one looks like it would be a rapid build unless I decide to make it multi-stage). But I worry if it's a limited edition - if I wait too long it might be too late |

Compared to what some guy's spend on Hi-Power rockets and components, this is a drop in the bucket. But then it's always the ones with the deep pockets that have the shortest arms.

I am part of a brotherhood with Matt, James, and Mike. I have some of Mike's Galactic Manufacturing parts for the Estes Doorknobs. I was a friend of the late John Pursley also. The GM parts are on par or better than the Accur8 parts. John made parts for the DARS build of Apollo 7 models and did require some rework. As James pointed out, these Javelin parts would require very little work passed priming and painting.
It is not a kit for everyone, but if you want a great scale model, this might be it. I still have an Apogee Saturn V in the pile. Used some of the Apogee Saturn IB kit parts for a Pod Bay Doors competition entry. Chas
