I have not seen this price lately, it’s been more like $5 a can, but using Walmart.com at least helps see if you can get it, and not have to go looking for it.

I've had occasional issues with Rustoleum primers - both with it sometimes melting plastics, and with the dreaded 'crinkle' (even with overcoating with another Rusto product).

I'm rather sold on this stuff: https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/...sandable-primer

Fills and sands well, and I can overcoat it with pretty much anything without issue. Catch is, places like Walmart don't sell it, so you need to get it mail order - case at a time, and shipping is expensive.

I'm putting together a Rocketarium Roland SAM 3 right now.
The attached pic shows a sanded canard fin on the left, unsanded on the right.
Dry sanded using 100 grit, took about five minutes to do the whole fin.
You could follow up with progressively finer grits to get it smooth, but since I'll be shooting hi fill auto primer anyway why bother? Just wanted to knock down the micro ridges enough and let the primer handle the rest.
BTW my Boyce Pershing came with the four big nose pieces already sanded smooth.
Even had some dust on it when I took it out from the bubble wrap.
The smaller pieces were not sanded.
Have fun.

Yes, I dry sand, though I suspect wet sanding would work too.

I've never had any issues with Rustoleum primers. Only get the "raisin skin" if I put on two actual paint coats without waiting at least 48-72 hours. And if I sand Rustoleum paint for any reason, I re-apply primer before painting.

Do the Boyce kits come with decals? Parts look good, should be a great build.

Yes, they’re in the first photo. (3) sheets of vinyl decals. The kit comes with everything except:

BT-101 X 21.467”
29MM motor moistness tube x 8.00”
(2) 36” parachutes (personally, I think that’s too much canopy)
60” elastic shock cord

Don’t know how I missed the decal details in the kit description on the Boyce site but there it is in plain English 😏

Following along on your build should be great...

Yes, it’s gonna be fun!

BTW, I don’t know what the finished weight is yet, but am I the ONLY one that thinks (2) 36” parachutes is too much canopy?

See my last post (#25) in this thread:
https://www.rocketryforum.com/threa...hing-1a.164100/

One 36" chute shows a 15 fps descent rate in the EMRR calculator.
Two would take it to Maui.
