Wolverine Fin Plans Kit # 0816
Does anybody have the root edge measurements for the Estes Wolverine?
I just need the largest "wing" root edge measurement. (Or better yet, a full sized fin templates on PDF?) I'd like to build a downscale of it and the plans from JimZs are a little distorted and not to scale. Having the root edge measurement would at least give me a baseline to start with. Thanks!

For taking the time to take the measurements. I had gone ahead an did a little drawing before I saw your post. I'll make a few corrections based on your measurements from your kit. How did we ever get by before the internet and the forums?

Are you selecting "print actual size" when you print the tif? I think that's the common problem in cases like this. It may be your tif viewer; it may not have that option. If necessary, you can download a freebie such as Brava. It's an Active X app that runs under Firefox. You may already know all this, but I throw it out there, JIC Doug .

The root edge of the largest Wolverine fin came out at 3 3/4" long! If I was doing a BT-60 upscale, it'd probably fit well. The print included a fin marking guide that was off, the rectangle shape wasn't true. But, in the end, I've got some real measurements to play with. Thanks, guys!

Well said, Doug. I like using Irfanview as my TIF viewer; Irfanview offers considerable flexibility working with TIF files. Don't recall the address, but it's readily google-able.

If you simply double click on the image to open it in your browser window and then try to print it, the image will not come out correct. It will be printed at your browser's resolution (usually 96 dpi) instead of the correct resolution, 300 dpi. (All of the TIF images at JimZ's site are scanned at 300 dpi.) As others have indicated, the solution is to right-click on the image and download it to your disk, and then open it in a TIF viewer or compatible graphics program. Lately, I have been using OpenOffice 3.2, which opens them in the correct size. I can then use OO to save them in Acrobat format, which makes sharing them and printing them easy. (Acrobat Reader has some handy and easy to use printing features.)
Remember: if you want to be sure that the image is in the right size and scale, find the image or document options for your program and make sure that the resolution is set to 300 dpi. Every TIF image at the site has a resolution of 300 dpi. Most instruction pages, scans and templates can be printed on letter-size (8.5" by 11") paper, but there are some that need to be printed on legal-size (8.5" by 14") paper. (Check the document properties to verify the sizes of the pages.) Often there are templates that are smaller than 8.5" x 11". That's OK, though - they will print out fine on letter-size sheets, but be sure that Page Scaling is turned off. I like to print instruction pages on regular paper and templates on cardstock, but I can't find the latter in legal-size sheets. For templates that need that size, I buy large sheets of poster board and cut out 8.5" by 14" sheets from them. My ink-jet printer has no problem handling the poster board.
