Yes, it recovered safely, but my pucker factor was pretty high. Though it did wobble, it went pretty much straight up. If there had been any wind, I'm sure it would have weather cocked and never got enough altitude to recover safely. I flew it in dead calm humid summer air at dusk with the smoke lingering over the pad. I only had a Kodak 110 pocket camera so my photos were terrible. My cousin and I decided it could never be flown in any wind at all, and of course, I decided later just to retire it.

Already have one. It'll fly on 7 D12, or even a mix of C11 and D12 motors, but liftoff is a bit slow, I prefer to add 1 to 3 CTI E31 motors to the mix. I've never flown it on 7 E12 motors, my CATO rate has been a bit too high with them. Even 1 central E60 would be a big help. It's built with aircraft ply fins, but no glass, so don't think I'd want to try 7 core burners.

One iE60 in the center of that Hydra VII would be a good kick off the pad though.

I was thinking of upscaling to a 3" diameter . . . Overall length would be 55.9" . . . Motor tubes would be BT-56, with 24mm motor mounts. Dave F. |

It would definitely exceed the maximum propellant wt. for a "model rocket" . . . It would fly as an HPR model. I would probably use Balsa over a Styrofoam core, to save $ on the wood, for the nose cones. Dave F. |
