RIP: NASA Flight Director John Hodge
Another of the early NASA flight directors, John Hodge, has passed away at age 92.
Hodge was one of a number of engineers and personnel NASA brought on board from the canceled AVRO Arrow project in Canada in the very late 1950s. NASA press release: https://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-r...ctor-john-hodge He became the second flight director after Kraft when a second was needed during the more than day long flight of Gordon Cooper's Mercury flight in 1963. He stayed on with NASA in various capacities through the end of the Apollo program and returned to NASA in the early 80s to work with the space station program. He was on duty when Gemini 8 with Neil Armstrong and Dave Scott went into its struck thruster tumbling emergency and was on console during the Apollo 1 fire. Earl
