Default Outlander

I finally was able to put decals on my Outlander. My Bel paper worked really well until the last few sheets of the package, which gave me a lot of trouble. I finally got some from MicroMark and applied the decals today. I hoped the felt cloth would absorb some light and give me a good black background, but I reckon I'll have to go outside like I did with those Interceptor pics to get the look I want.

I finally got around to putting the recovery system in my cloned Astro 1. It's on the left next to the Semroc kit. I cheated and used some Semroc fins and nosecone, but it's not the pointy one that was in the Semroc kit. I think it probably matches the profile of the plastic nosecone used in later Astro-1's anyway.

Another shot just for the heck of it.

Absolutely the Astro first.

However . . .

Take the Alpha's fins and make the root edge the bottom and, voila, the Astro!

Thanks, Al!

The 4" Goblin's nosecone is indeed an Ace. The 2.6" Goblin is a PNC-80K that I extended at the base. The 2.6" Red Max is a nosecone that I turned myself.

I can't see your photo from work...so I have no idea!

As for the two Astros, I built the Semroc kit first and I wasn't satisfied with my finish. I didn't like the color red I used, I didn't get a slick finish on the nosecone, the paint bled under the tape, and the decals seemed pale. I remedied the situation with the clone I made. I used Italian red...which is much more brilliant than internet pics can show. In fact, you can't really see much difference on the internet pic. I made the decals with better reds, and I slicked up the finish a lot better. One last thing that I did was to build it with a 13mm mount because I'd lose it on anything more than an "A" anyway, and 4 mini motors are cheaper than 3 standards.

Love the Mars Lander motif on the Outlander! It looks so much better than the catalog color scheme. I may just try that on my own Outlander...once again, VERY nice job!

I believe Phred ( Excelsior Decals ) has the Mars Lander style sheets for the Outlander.

Might try that myself - I had purchased my outlander when released to cannibalise for Mars Lander clone , tore apart my old and crunched R2D2 for the BT100, bought BMS cone, and THEN heard the Semroc one was being released, lol..... still have not decided to just grab the kit, or to plunge ahead with the clone, since I have many parts, course now it's "do you get Semroc parts to finish the clone, or ....

Does the Semroc Mars Lander have the embossed wraps or are they just printed? I have not seen the Semroc kit up close.
