Default Working On My Version of the Lamp

Been some time since this scam hit me.

Still want a big Saturn V lamp.

So, I created one. Lots to do yet but thought I would show initial fit test and photo op.

Will have several hundred red and yellow LED strings. For the darker clouds, I have some Black light strips heading this way.

For now total of 420 watts of light. Using Candelabra light bulbs rated at 60watt Daylight bright. Total of 7-fixtures, these LED are bright but thinking of adding the other 3-lamps to total it out at 600 watts of light.

Anyway check the photos below. Ran out of Christmas decoration "snow" , will head in and buy more tomorrow to complete the vertical steam/smoke cloud. Only one side is done. The smaller horizontal cloud is complete except for lighting.

Will be printing a new rocket, this one was laying around, it is an old stomp rocket with many flights.

This covers lots of floor space; Length is 6ft and 5ft tall.

Mike

The problem I have is finding enough room to place the finished lamp.

I have been thinking of a smaller Saturn V for the lamp.

How about the 1/200th scale plastic kit from the AMT Man in Space kit. I have two of the kits!

The Saturn V is like 22” tall and the Saturn 1B is a bit over 12” tall.

Maybe for a table lamp instead of a floor lamp.

The first pic shows the Saturn 1B with a ruler.

What do you think?

I just did a quick search on YouTube and there are a bunch of versions of the “Saturn Lamp” projects with lots of ideas.

Speaking of rocket lamps…

I think I have some winter project ahead but not 40”+ tall Saturn V’s. Those can be for floor lamps.

I have some smaller Saturn V and Saturn 1B models, toys really, that I picked up over the years.

Instead of floor lamp, how about table lamps?

The one on the left is a roughly assembled ( no glue yet) Ertil Men in Space Saturn 1B and the other two the Saturn V and the small 1B I got at the gift shop at Wallops Island.

I have a couple of rolls of LEDs I just have to come up with base designs and figure out where the LEDs will go.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I’d just continue on this one.

So far the hard part is building and painting the models

It has been a very long time since I built a plastic non flying rocket.

I keep thinking of ways to make them fly . I have to reminding myself that they are going to be lamps.

Default Had Some Fun with This One!

Text messaged my daughter a photo.

Told her that I used so much light power that my kitchen floor started smoking!

Hook line and sinker!!!

It is almost done, the power supplies for the black lights LED are here. Trying to use them on the darker clouds. If not might have to figure a way to paint the clouds a darker color.

Cool white LED to be in the first of the smoke, then yellow LED to simulate the colors in the photos I'm using for guidance.

The final layer on the smoke clouds is complete. Touch up work left to do. The clouds are the side of a cardboard box cut in the proper shape. Glued artificial snow rolled into balls to that with super 77.

I have been building and finishing the AMT ERTL Pro Shop Man in Space rocket collection.

This has been so much fun to build it has been a very very long time since I’ve built a plastic model. Once I got to the Saturn 1B is where I started to scratch my head a bit.

There are two sets of LEM with assent and descent part trees along with the Command and service module. One for the Sat V and one for the 1B. When I looked into kit box are two more sets!

The extras are not mentioned in the tnstructions.

Does anybody know if they are extras?

Default Saturn V Lamp Project Rocket

Got to thinking about this project.

Kinda' looks like if anyone else wants to give this a try, you'll need a rocket.

Check out the PDF file below. Be sure to print at 100% scale on letter size Index 110lb [198gsm] Cardstock

31.5" tall version when done.
