Estes DARC-1 Build Started
I've started a build of the new Estes DARC-1 on my build blog at:
modelrocketbuilding.blogspot.com This is one of the more interesting kit builds, have new knife blades (and maybe a few Band-aids) on hand before cutting into the blow molded shroud!

Chris-
Do you know who at Estes designed this one? Much like you, my first-glance take was “Wow, sure looks like a takeoff on the Centuri X-24 Bug!” Good luck in the build. I’ll be checking in.... Earl

IIRC during the video tour of Estes Bill Stine did for vNARCON he briefly discussed that the DARC-1 design had been around for sometime but I don’t remember if he said who the designer is… https://youtu.be/t3rImt_dNZg |

What became the DARC-1 started off 5-10 years ago as an idea Bill Stine had at Quest. Quest didn't have the money to produce the kit at the time. I guess Bill finally was able to bring out that kit albeit with a different manufacturer.

Bill Stine handed me a concept model he created. The shroud was made out of thin card stock. It also contained the three rear fins and body tube. He asked me to turn his none flying model into a flying model while making the shroud a blow molded part. I took it from there and turned it into what you see in the kit. John Boren |

And it seems to be progressing quite well. Excellent build, Chris!
