New Scale Model Build-Navaho
I started the Cad design work on this model about four years ago, then stopped until a month ago. I most likely have fifty plus hours of cad time in it and I've got more to go but at least I'm to a point that I can start cutting wood.
Attached are images of what the underlying structre is gong to look like. It has a built in Jig assembly that will be cut away once the upper surface has been sheeted. I'ts all cut from 3/32" balsa. It will then be sheeted with 1/16" balsa. The hard part is going to be getting it smooth enough so it can been entered ithe completed model in the Giant Sport Scale event at next years NARAM. There are other parts to the model not shown but this is going to be the hard part so I thought i would start with this. Can anyone guess what the Model is. If there is interest I can post images of some of the build that I hope to start in just a few days. John Boren Last edited by JumpJet : 11-02-2013 at 11:27 AM. |

Navaho is my first thought also.

Yes, it's a Navaho all right but....it looks like you're building a model airplane.
I hope you cover it with something stronger than tissue.

Yes, it is a Navaho. The model will be completely sheeted with 1/16" balsa. If this part comes out OK I'll build the booster to go with it, if not then I"ll switch to my alternate model, the Russian GOA.

Since nobody asked, when are you kitting that?
Seriously, there may be a few who would like to buy a set of those wood parts. Bill

Since I work for Estes I can't offer any Rocket Kits myself. Best I could ever do would be a full size PDF file of the parts or maybe see if a laser cutting service out there would be willing to sell a laser cut set of parts directly to the customer. Lets first see if this one even flies well and then after NARAM 56 we can see if anything more happens with the Navaho.

Any body know this person and maybe how to contact him. This is the only other Navaho I've seen in model rocket form and I would like to know if his smaller version boosted straight. Based on the tittle of the photo I would guess his name is Andy Shector.
