I am getting ready to paint my Scram Jet, but need some assistance with the colors. I try to paint my vintage rockets like the display rockets built by Centuri or Estes. The only actual non artist picture I have found is on the Centuri Poster picture. I have a small picture of the poster so it is hard to see the Scram Jet. Does any one have the actual large Centuri Poster? If so, is the Scram Jet painting Yellow? Ok, now here is what I was able to complete yesterday on the vintage Centuri Scram-Jet. I brushed on one coat of Astro-Seal followed by 2 coats of Astro-Fill and finished building last night. I am waiting for the TN wind to die down so I can start painting today. The nose cone is wider than the body tube and the two body tubes are not exactly the same diameter. Also, the nylon motor ring was a bear to put on but I refuse to let a vintage kit defeat me.

Here are some examples from Centuri materials I have. Seems like the most consistent colors I have seen are the ones in the yellow and red flyer page. That would be a white body, black nose with a silver tip, and red engine pods on each side at the rear. That would be consistent with the second paint option in Step 17 of the instructions.

Thank you for the info, but thanks to Leo, I have a picture of the actual rocket Centuri Built. The one on display is gray with red and black nose.

I was able to get a coat of primer on the Scram Jet yesterday and today I will spray the Gray paint. I don't use a filler primer because honestly I do not like sanding the entire rocket. I spray a basic smooth gray primer and only sand areas that is needed and only spray one coat of primer. This is one coat of primer after sanding. Also, I am using the old shock cord mount.

How did the adhesive hold up over time?

This shock cord mount was one of the reasons I preferred Centuri kits over Estes. I tended to acquire less expensive kits as a youngster, and the Estes standard trifold mount takes up a lot of space in small diameter kits. There are ways to make that trifold mount work better, but I didn't know those tricks when I was 12. The Centuri mount was low profile and easy to install.

The adhesive is gone. I just glued it in.

I agree, always thought The Centuri mount was better than the Estes tri-told.
Centuri had to add an addendum to later kits telling you to reach inside with a fingertip or pencil eraser end and press down on the mount to re-adhere.
The mount didn't stay down over time.

The Centuri mount idea is similar to the older Stine "Shock Lock" mount. The shock lock lies flatter than the tri-fold mount.

Enerjet kits used a "Giant" version of the Centuri mount.
It was almost 200% the size.

Another day of good weather and she is all painted with decals going on tomorrow. She is close to looking like the Scram Jet in the Centuri photo minus the decals. For the nose cone, I just used an old Centuri BT for a mask and painted black leaving the natural red color.

Here is a comparison. Regular Centuri shock cord fastener on the right, Enerjet sized fastener on the left.

I still use the Centuri fastener with every vintage build. But like sigs says, in the vast majority of cases the stickum on the back of the vintage fastener has long since solidified, so I just smear some yellow wood glue that I use for all my builds to the back of the fastener and put it in place.
