Default Cheap night launch nose cones

I went out to Wally World last week to pick up some snap swivels for the multitude of birds currently in various stages of completion in my room of mad science. I wasn't looking for anything else, I swear. What caught my eye were these light up bobbers.

http://www.basspro.com/Night-Bobby-...ions&kpid=43847

They had the round one in red and the cone shaped one in yellow. They don't make perfect nose cones, but with a little work they fit nicely in a BT-50 coupler, which I plan to mount into the end of the BT-50 body tube. I had to sand the plastic "nubs" around the yellow base, but once I got it sanded just right, it popped in with a surprisingly nose cone-like fit. The shock cord can be tied in to the base in the same manner that a fishing line would be. I found a scrap piece of BT-50 and an 18mm engine mount, and I'm thinking about a nice wide-set three fin setup. The yellow isn't as bright as the red, but in the field that might change. I'm thinking about just using the same base for both at first, but I can see myself building two different birds, just because.
I should have pictures tomorrow. I was busy planning and plotting tonight and it slipped my mind. Haven't had a night launch at B6-4 Field since 2001. Can't wait for it to resurface.

Brilliant!

I hate it when you tease us like this!

I can see it in my mind but I want a hard copy.

I tried to get some pics outside today, but the wind was just too nasty. Indoor pics will have to suffice. I was out on Friday and had to stop at Wally World, and while I was there, I decided to check for more bobbers. I lucked out. They had a red cone one, so I snapped it up. The rocket body is just cobbled together so I can fly it tomorrow if the chance presents itself. Kind of goes with the Night Eye name I came up with.

This will be great for our annual night launch held in November. Check out CMASS.org for last years night launch. Awesome.

First time I've seen the pictures since posting them. Looks like a) the Ipad isn't a great indoors camera in low light situations, and b) I need to experiment more with it because all four of those shots were oriented right when I posted them last night. I also decided that the longer nose cone was going to stay on my "pre-production" bird seen here, and figured out a new body for the round cone. (Think Centuri Red-Eye.)

Try this: http://www.amazon.com/Night-Bobby-L...t/dp/B001AML5L0 for the round one. This: http://www.amazon.com/Night-Bobby-L...t/dp/B003NKQXFA is the longer one, but it's a bit different than the ones I got. Mine are either all red or all yellow.

Nice find. I might have to add some to my inventory.
