Exactly why I liked Carl's method of selling directly to hobbyists when he owned Semroc.
Kits were reasonably priced direct to us with no GARBAGE middleman markups.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case here. We still paid the $1.00 per tube. I’m not sure what you mean about Carl s engines. They sold at same price as others. Maybe I missed something here….

I have an original Bat-Rok from when I was a kid. It's missing the payload section and cone from when it had a separation at it's last launch in the early 70's. It floated away to the unknown. Anyhow, I gave Carl the length of my body tube and traced the fins for him. I had also sent him one of my Egg Crate fins which is where his template came from for that kit.

Glad to hear this ! Especially to know where he got his info from. I have no idea where the discrepancies lie in. Still, mine is factory sealed and tube is 1” longer. Can you send pics ?
Also, can you send measurements of the tube length ?
Do you still have the instructions ? I’d love a copy of these….. !

My comment was more about Carl's direct sales of kits to hobbyists for VERY reasonable prices.
Have you looked at current kit pricing for "3rd generation" Semroc ?

ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

Oh, ok. I get it. Since I’ve done most everything in rocketry, and I’m older too,,, I’m limiting what I do to the few vintage kits etc I can find. This last lot was luck. I have 5 more kits coming from that lot, then will get 3 more. I’m not up to date on Semroc as I’m unable to build or fly anymore. So I don’t know what’s up with that anymore. I only have a small box of my favorite older ones in Semroc. I’m Just enjoying the old Estes and Centuri stuff I turn up. I Found a guy who’s selling off my other stuff, so I’m weeding that out as I’m able. I just have too much stuff. Thanks…..

GH,
Unfortunately it is a very different world from when Carl owned Semroc.
Balsa prices have quadrupled and what is available is often really poor quality.
Tube quality available from the former Euclid has gotten so bad that much of what is being produced is unusable, even though the cost has gone WAY up.
Semroc has discontinued a huge number of kits and all but a very few, like the Mars Lander, will probably go away soon.
At current prices and quality, Randy is finding it VERY difficult to keep producing the line.
Wish it weren't so, but it is.

Steve

Steve-
There are alternatives though.
3-D printing for cones (although I prefer balsa) and use of thinner basswood for fin stock are two possibilities.
Although I realize times are far different when Carl relaunched Semroc in the early 2000's, I think he would have found innovative ways to keep most of his kits alive without astronomical price increases.
Estes continues to have quality tubes. Did they dump Euclid ?

Yeah, I agree. Carl was constantly innovating everything. Me,,, I’m just an old school guy who likes old school rockets. And staying about where I’m at…. Tho I do like a lot of the new ways of doing things .
