Well I knew this next step was going to suck which is why I put it off awhile. Glued the motor mount in place with epoxy which gives me time to get the mount in place before it sets. To build the air scoop you have to cut out the templates and mark the extra tube, than very carefully cut it out. Then the fine sanding begins to get a nice shape. Finish paint will fix a lot but I tried to get things as smooth as possible. This kind of fiddle f@$&ing is not exactly fun but I am happy with the results. Now I can get to assembling this thing....

Scoop is in place, besides the included alignment cards I used tape to position and glued in multiple small sections. Then I sanded the tube/shroud joint a bit and applied one full length fillet.

She’s looking kind of snarky I think. One more internal scoop fin and launch lug to install and I can move on to making her look pretty.

First shot of filler/primer done, now I can better see what needs work. A few holes in the fillets to deal with but over all things are smoother than I thought. Fill, sand, prime and repeat till it’s all smooth.

I like how you went with matte black on the underside. Thinking ahead about the order in which I paint this thing has me considering doing the same. It is going to be tough to spray a gloss coat inside the scoop without paint running, and how am I going to tape off the rocket after the gloss white to paint the red inside there. Would be way easier I think to paint inside the scoop first and then tape that off to paint the rest white, although color wise that is backwards of what I would normally do. Hand painting the underside last seems like an easier alternative and with matte black I can get a decent result. Hmm....
