this morning's launch
Launched my digital Astrocam this morning following some repairs to the body last night of flight damage. The chute again failed to deploy (I suspect the 15" chute is just a bit too large for the narrow body, especially given the way the shock cord is mounted). The second launch totaled the launch vehicle, so will be building a new one (cone and camera are fine). Here's a link to the video:

Gave up the search after an hour. I think I'm going to build the next one with nose blow recovery and maybe a tiny streamer. More launches planned for tomorrow, including the new Tigres which may also find itself boosting the Astrocam nose :-) . |

Wow! That second flight was eerie. Seeing the smoke drift past after it hit made the hair stand up on my arms. Sorry about the chute issues. As long as the camera isn't hurt I guess losses are minimal.

I had similar thoughts....it made for an interesting video, but at the expense of the booster. Fortunately camera and nose cone were fine and the Tigres makes a fine alternative booster. Expect to finish a Mongoose soon which will serve as a staged booster. The 12" chute seems to work much better than the 15" for the small diamter of the body. Given my results....the nose and camera should be fine even with a streamer! (which I just might use with the Mongoose).

An Astron Omega would make an even better booster.
