I like this upscale—bunches. I really like the Astro-1. My idea of a model rocket. Nice work!

For a "quicky" it came out really well. I think the roll bars will really spiff it up. I'll do that this coming weekend.

One thing I would have done differently: Made the fins TTW. That should have been a no-brainer on a kit this big, but I laid them out and cut them out w/o thinking and I didn't want to waste a fairly big piece of balsa. So I used "fin rivets" and put paper tabs along the root edge.

I hope there's a BT-70 cone that is proportionately as long as this one, so others can clone the Astro-1.

What is TTW shorthand for?

Thumbs up Ttw

I use that technique all the time. Just haven't used the TTW before. Thanks.

Post Growing Building Queue

I opened up my empty building queue this morning. I went to the local Hobby Shop (LHS) and purchased a bottle of Bob Smith industries CA Maxi-Cure super glue, this is a product that I have never used before, but decided to try it.
I purchased 1 Estes QCC Explorer kit, kit # 3221, Level 4 at the LHS and ordered the Estes Conquest, kit #7230, level 5, so I should have it next Tuesday. The pkg of 4 - 18 inch BT-20 tubes has been ordered to complete the components for the Shrox Vipox that I am going to build, but they have been put on back order. I still have been able to get started on this scratch build. Let the fun begin.
I also ordered a 15 inch plastic parachute for the Blue Angel/Glider to finish it. The 18 inch Nylon Chute that I had and was going to use would not fit into the BT-50 tube. I will assemble it according to the Apogee newsletter article that I posted the other day.
I don't see these new kits as challenges but opportunities to learn something new to me and gain the experience to pass it on.

I picked up the 15 inch Estes Parachute today for the Blue Angel/Glider build. This completes this build.
The Estes Conquest, kit #7230 came in as well, and was picked up today. The package of BT-20 tubes is still on back order.

Some recent builds, my version of the mylar Streak (I did build an original, which disappeared immediately), MRN plan Big Bertha and a scratch Deuce's Wild. I have a small test field, so what would be the best motor for the Deuce?

Nice Streak - is that standard BT20 plastic tube? Have any 1/2A6-4 motors to fly it on?

I like a pair of B4-4 in the Deuces Wild for small fields. The A8-3 is dicey, IIRC.

Thanks, Yep.. BT20 payload tubing, I looked into some mylar tubes, but since it will be display only the plastic will work. Hope to fly the Deuces Wild in few days, thanks for motor advice.
