APP60 was 80% AP, 20% Flexane 60. Polyether polyurethanes like Flexane have some oxygen in the binder so it didn't take a very high propellant "solids loading" to produce a smokeless exhaust. HTPB propellants have a higher amount of carbon in the polymer so a higher solids loading is required to simulate the same effect...in the range of 84-86%. |
