Centuri Design Contest X-Wing question
http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/ca...ntercenRT8.html
I've got a nephew who is a budding Star Wars geek, so in advance of flying season at B6-4 Field I'm getting an order together for the parts to build one. I was wondering which currently available Semroc nose cone would be better in place of the BC-135 that is called for. Both the http://www.semroc.com/Store/Scripts...?idproduct=2512 and http://www.semroc.com/Store/Scripts...p?idproduct=488 look good to my eye, but I wanted some unprofessional opinions as well. ;) |
Between the two, the BC-1331 visually looks better because it's longer. If Carl had a BC-1335 or 1338 elliptical, it might even look better. Anything longer, though, would take away from the appearance.

Unprofessionally speaking...

I agree with Craig. ;) :D  Cheers, |
The BC-1339 is a copy of an original Centuri BC-135 that I had on loan. I think the drawing of the X-wing is off from the actual shape of the nose cone.

Then that settles it. I'm getting a 1331 and a 1339. I'll see which one I like better, then design something else around the other one.

Ooh, yeah! Never thought of that. |
Parts arrived on Tuesday and I immediately learned the first law of questioning Carl's judgement.
DON'T! :chuckle: :o The BC-135 equivalent was perfect in person, not matching the drawing, but just looking RIGHT. I printed out an 8 fin guide for a 13-series tube, hoping to get a decent line on the X-wings. With the first two wings in place, I think that was a wise decision, but based on the dimensions given on the drawing on the old Centuri Times, I have to wonder about the ST-1313. It looks WAY too long with the nose cone in place, pretty much dwarfing the wings. I'll tack on the other two, then decide if I need to enlarge the wings, or "unenlarge" the body tube. Then again, there's also a possibility that the engine tubes and wing cannons could have an effect on the overall look, so I'll have to put a couple of those together and see how things look. |
