Quest DC-Y question
 

I'm reviving a Quest DC-Y that lost its PNC. How much plasticine would a replacement nose get?

Doug, if no-one else can answer I have a DC-Y in the bag I can open and weigh the plasticine for you. It'll encourage me to actually get around to building it... :D

29.7 Grams, 1.047637 oz. Now I have to build it...

It's a cool little rocket and great for small field demos. Thanks to the base drag, it leaves a nice fat whispy smoke trail. Due to its drag and all that weight in the nose, it flies low and recovers quickly for those tiny school playgrounds.

For folks that already have a stock kit built, it wouldn't be hard to design and print other cardstock shrouds and have an interesting fleet, not unlike what we did a few years ago with Estes Outlanders and Orbital Transports, along with Accur8's wraps for Interceptors. I can envision a classic TWA or PAN AM spaceliner concept, or a Thunderbirds (Gerry Anderson show) style motiff to name a few.

I built a 13mm version which was a lot of fun. I wish Quest would bring back the Aeroshroud kits.

Wow, one would assume they were shooting for ‘one ounce’ weights on this for each kit. To get it to within four hundredths of an ounce is pretty accurate.

Ok...I know it’s just clay. :o

But as one gets older, sometimes it’s the little things that makes your day. :)
