Shelby Farms Launch 5-28-2022

Our Section launches keep getting scrubbed for winds. We skipped this weekend because we figured everyone would be doing something else. But, three of us got together and put up soe flights on a day that was PERFECT for launching rockets. So, let me post some pictures....

Start with my cloned Canaroc Super Tornado. This has become my favorite "first launch of the day" because of it's slow spin on a B6-4 and relatively low so people can see the complete flight detail. Our photographer is spot on for photographing. I can't figure out how he keeps launches in the frame. These two shots are from the same launch. The rocket is spinning so he captures two different sides of the rocket....

Then, my daughter's boyfriend and I put our Quest Evaders on the pad. I went with a grey color scheme where he went with the kit panel colors.....

Mine went up on a C6-3 (I'd flown it before on a B6-4) and his this flight was on a B6-4.

I built a Quest X-15 Sport Scale and added the Forum's recommended 1.5 oz of nose weight. Decided today was the day to see if would be stable since there wasn't that many of us here.....

Flew straight up on a C6-3.

After reading how some rocketeers felt the Boosted Bertha was underwhelming, I decided to build mine with a D booster. I wasn't sure the stages would stay together long enough for the upper stage to ignite so this made for another good day to "test" a rocket design.

The D booster lifted the Boosted Bertha off the pad with authority, nothing underwhelming about it! And the staging worked....you can see the booster tumbling down in the third picture.

Did I metion my photographer likes clusters? This one has three C6-0 around a core E. He ALWAYS gets his clusters to ignite. He solders a ring-type igniter (custom made) and just hooks the two micro-clips to it....

A great day had by all.

Next Mid-South Rocket Society, NAR Section 550 launch scheduled for June 11, 2022. You all come join us. We might even put out some banana pudding....

Great to see you are still flying at Shelby Farms!

What kind of camera was used in the onboard shots?

I used to occasionally CHAD stage D12's to my old Bertha. It flew great that way. You made a good choice going 24mm considering all the room you have for recovery. I would imagine a C6-0 would be pretty wimpy condidering the Bertha doesn't exactly leap off the pad as a single stager. A C5-0 would probably be pretty good, and with your 24mm mount, a C11-0 would be great for slightly breezier days or smaller areas.
