A- 9 Suicide Missle

Dear Rocketeers,

Just tonight I discovered a plastic model rocket kit on e-Bay called the A-9 Suicide Missle. Sorry but I am not tech enough to get a picture of it here on my post. It looks lie a V-2 with two elonganated fins running the length of the body 180 degrees apart and it has a cockpit for a pilot. Never saw such a thing before. Something the Nazis' were thinking of at the end of the war. Anyone tired to make a working model rocket of this bird? If so, sure would appreciate the plans for building.

Thanks in advance, Les

(jeffyjeep - if you see this post, here's a V-2 for you to model and Camo !)

The A9/A10 was a propose "Aggregate" trans Atlantic ballistic missile.

The A9 (the one you noted was the piloted upper stage and the A 10 was the first stage booster.

Look close at the top of the first picture. You can see the A9 inside the A10.

The A10 was a larger version of the V-2.

Interesting how much the A-9 resembles the X-15, isn't it?

Need to be careful with the German. Aggregat in that context was a group or type of machines. The V-2 was the fourth in the evolution of the series. The Wermacht called it the A-4 in their correspondence, while the Party used V-2. Same was true of the Fiesler Fi-103 flying bomb

I remember seeing a documentary about the real one on TV many years ago. I believe one of the first volunteer "jockeys" for that thing was a woman.

That is correct. I don't remember the name but there was also a movie back in the 80's about the complex and development and it featured a woman as one of the pilots.
