12 Days of Christmas 2009

Well, here we are again on December the 13th 2009 which just so happens to be the 12th Day Before Christmas. I have not been very active here at YORS or with designing more Rocksim designs in recent months , but have managed to create a few designs for the
4th Annual 12 Days Before Christmas 2009.
Since last June, nearly all of my time and energy has been devoted to my newly elected duties of President of Peninsula Carpenter’s Local #1597 of Bremerton, Washington. It is a joy to serve my Brothers and Sisters and has challenged me to grow in many ways. My heart however, would still much rather be building and flying model rockets :D !!!

First design up is the Blizzard of Id. Don't ask why, just go with it  .

Enjoy and Merry Christmas to ALL, JP.

Welcome back, JP!

Ya know, I was just thinkin' of ya the other day... :D

Interesting how the rocket deploys so differently on the Quest B6-4 than it does on the Estes.

Looks très cool, James.

Craig, ditto, my friend, as I have been thinking of you as well ;) and Merry Christmas to you.

Yes, the Quest engines seem to have better Dv's. I wonder if that holds true in the real world as well?

Thanks Guys

Thanks Guys ( Mark II and Rocketflyer), I am glad you like name :D and the design.
It was a real struggle this year to find the time to create 12 designs for the 12 days of Christmas this year :o .

Thanks and a very Merry Christmas to ya all.

I am out of practice lately with the pod feature in Rocksim 9. I had to refresh my "rusty bucket" a few times on the parts as well  .
Next design up is the Checkmate with an interesting fin pattern using 1/8" dowels on the root edge for fin placement .

Box fins! I like 'em! Much more elegant than some other designs that I have seen. Unfortunately, I can't view the design file though, because I still haven't upgraded yet. But judging from the 3D shots, I like the lines of it. Box fins can be stylish or they can be clunky. Nothing oafish here; this design is classy.

This next design, the Cosmic Stargazer, was originally a 13mm design that seem to preform even better with the 18mm motors. I added the tip fins for a little more flare and drag. I wish I had the time to change the tip fins by adding a double arc to them as I think this design would look that much better.

I seem to have discovered another "anomaly in the force" if you will. Seems to me that a guy can't find a conical nose cone in the Series 13 listed at Semroc  . That being the case I would like to propose the BC-1341 conical that is simulated with this next design called the Iracus One. Besides, I know Carl can make most anything, that most anyone, can dream up concerning balsa ;).

This next design, the Jupiter Express, is another one of my attempts to get away from the straight body tube and add lots of stuff. There is a catch 22 1/2 though, as the more I add the more the performance suffers with all that added wieght  . Cool name anyways and a pay-loader as well :D.

JUPITER EXPRESS

You haven't actually built this one yet, right?

It will be really interesting to see if those four tube fins provide the necessary stability for this bird. I'm just a little skeptical of a 1.21 margin, especially with the C6-5, using only those four tubes. It's not you I'm doubting, of course... :D

This one begs to be tried! I might have to break down and order some contraband...

Thanks Craig, I am glad I have sparked your interest.
Carl, the well known and infamous "Balsa Peddeler" of Semroc, whom we both know well, should be able to get you your 'FIX" if you feel the sudden compulsion to built the Jupiter Express :chuckle: . That is what is so fun about designing with Rocksim Craig, maybe it will fly  and maybe not ?? You are most likely right and I should add some fins onto the tube fins for some added assurance.

With this next dark and mysterious design called the Leviathan I decided to go "pod crazy". Also, I have always liked the BNC-5BA ramjet cone and have always thought that it needed a companion aft nozzle as a partner so I simulated one for your viewing pleasure :D .

BTW since I have been so busy latey, who came up the the BC-721CN cone and nozzle set listed at Semroc??? Very very Cool: "Atta Boy" who ever ya are!

This next design, Star Sabre, is another one of my "Star Wars" inspired designs. Very difficult to get a healthy margin on this one those forward fins according to Rocksim. Another one of my designs based on looks and not performance and should prove to look cool  in flight or on the ground.

Here we have a design the seems to only fly on the A3T-4 with acceptable Dv's. Called this one
Strange Magic which makes me want to put on some Bell Bottoms and wear some funky gold chians :chuckle: . Just Kidding, or not  .

Cost of non-balsa parts: $2.95
Cost of balsa parts: $24.95
Building the pod-racer to end all pod-racers: Priceless. :D

Peace, baby.

Make the upper part clear, and put a mini lava lamp in it! You picked the right color for this design. May I suggest this spray paint, in dark purple?

Focus Gentleman, stay focused :chuckle: . I lost focus of what day I was posting with the Strange Magic design :o .

In my vein attempt to stay in focus and on target  , this next design is an spin-off of the Outpost Voyager design from a few years back. I'm calling it the Sunquest Explorer and just started deleting and adding parts until it changed enough to be a different design. I like the look of the aft nozzle transitions on designs but that moves the motor weight aft and really messes with a positive CG.

Alas, and here we be on the last Day Before Christmas with another Schoolyard Sounder design that I have named "Warp Drone". I have been blessed this year and thank you all once again for supporting me in my rocketry addiction ;) . I wish you all the best this Christmas Season and in the coming year.
Definitely once again time to place that Semroc order and start my winter builds :) .
