Another SEMROC milestone and a contest

We are celebrating our sixth kit to sell over 1000! Which one is it?

Better yet. Name our top six sellers since 2002 and win a gift certificate worth $100. Name them in the correct order and make it $200. Change your post as often as you like, but we will use the final answers on May 27 to determine the winner. In case of a tie, we will have a sudden death match online to guess the most likely next kit to sell over 1000, based on sales as of May 27. The contest is only open to SAM's, but everyone else can play for fun.

Congratulations Carl & Sheryl on another 1000 kit seller, and over 10 years of great kits and awesome customer service!!! :D

Hmmm....sounds fun....

I'll put out a quick guess:

Laser X
My Boid
Golden Scout
Micron
Vega
Arcon

or maybe Javelin or Start could be in there, hmmmmm....

Carl,

Congrats on the sales! That's a great contest you're offering as well. Good luck, everyone!

This is gonna be fun!

foamy 04-24-2013 09:55 AM

Congratulations Carl, Sheryl and Co.!

I'll take a shot in the dark:

1. Centurion
2. Astro-1
3. Goblin
4. Taurus Fleet Ship
5. Aero-Dart
6. Orbital Transport

Carl@Semroc 04-25-2013 09:43 PM

From an old thread:

By quantity: (all over 1000)
1. Boid
2. Laser-X
3. Saturn 1B
4. Golden Scout
5. Mars Lander
6. Swift

#6 should have been Swift/Swift BG combined. I had an error in the SQL command that combined sales of LIKE named kits. It was premature to call the Swift as the 6th kit selling over 1000. I never went back and changed the original post since it did not seem important at the time.

Now we have passed the 1000th mark for the sixth SINGLE kit without having to combine it with another similar sounding kit.

This makes it much easier. Was the 6th kit still the Swift or another kit? Has the order by total sales changed since that post? Hmmm... Now it is still interesting.

Cherokee-D?

Congradulations on another kit hitting a Grand!!!

Contragulations!

I'll go with Hydra VII as the 6th. Unlikely, probably, but it's my favorite Semroc kit, and it should be on the list!

1. Boid
2. Laser-X
3. Saturn 1B
4. Golden Scout
5. Mars Lander
6. Hydra VII

Chas Russell 04-27-2013 06:25 PM

Realized after I hit "Submit" that the choice of a recently released kit was just plain wrong. It'll be a long wait to find out the correct answer. Possibly the Micron, but I'd like it to be the BatRok. After all, I bought three with one for my wife.

Ok, then I will guess:

1. Boid
2. Laser-X
3. Saturn 1B
4. Golden Scout
5. Mars Lander
6. Hawk

jeffyjeep 05-02-2013 07:50 AM

Although it's relatively new, I believe the Sprite is the 6th one.

foamy 05-02-2013 09:41 AM

Okay, all of my other guesses were way off. This one probably will be too.

I guessing the ThunderBee.

Based on the fact that it's a nice bit of rocket for a low price and perhaps it does well in bulk sales.

hcmbanjo 05-13-2013 10:46 AM

1. Boid
2. Laser-X
3. Saturn 1B
4. Golden Scout
5. Mars Lander

My choice for the sixth kit to sell over 1,000 is:

ASTRO 1

I picked this one for a couple of reasons -
I would think it was a first model for many, and BARs look to rebuild their first kit.
I also checked the production years of some remaining repro models.
The Astro 1 and Javelin were both released in 2004. More years in production would mean more sales, right?

ghrocketman 05-13-2013 11:51 AM

Length in production may have some impact in overall sales, but I know two of the first they brought out were the SLS Scorpion and SLS Jaguar and doubt either is anywhere near the 1000 mark. Those were the first two Semroc kits I bought but got them off ebay, not direct. I think I may have more flights on my Scorpion than any rocket in my fleet. Flies well on anything from a B6-4 to a E9-8.

Space Ranger 05-27-2013 06:29 PM

Ok, I only had 3 of the correct kits in my first post, will change my submission if there is still time:

1. Boid
2. Laser-X
3. Saturn 1B
4. Mars Lander
5. Golden Scout
6. Orbital Transport

Also think the 6th could be the Rawhide or maybe the Thunderbee, but will go with the OT as a very popular sci fi kit - maybe I should order a few more to push it up :D

Carl@Semroc 05-28-2013 12:44 AM

By quantity sold:
1. Boid
2. Saturn 1B
3. Laser-X
4. Golden Scout
5. Mars Lander
6. Swift

Sorry that there was no winner this time. It was still the Swift (by itself). The Saturn 1B passed the Laser-X in total sales.

Other guesses were #8, #12, #13, #14, #15, #16 and #19

No one guessed #7. It was a surprise to me that it was so high.

foamy 05-31-2013 09:27 AM

So, now you've piqued my curiousity. What was #7? The top 10?

Okay—no problem. While I was trying to make an educated guess (that may be an oxymoron for me), it was fun to do.
