Estes ANTAR Now “Coming Soon”
The ANTAR page is up on the Estes website on the Coming Soon page
https://estesrockets.com/product/007310-antar/ Water slide decals and a very long looking nose cone. |
I'll be doing a full build on my blog when the model is released for sale.
modelrocketbuilding.blogspot.com The masking is not easy, but do-able. The long nose cone is the same one as in the Hi-Flier XL. |

Looking forward to the build! The ANTAR is a great looking rocket. The Estes -60RL cone is one of my favorites - I have an extra Hi-Flier XL kit on hand in case I ever need to build another Vagabond which is my all-time favorite 3/4FNC design. The H-F XL looks odd to me because of the oversized fins but it really does fly high with an Aerotech G motor! |

That would look nice with a BT-80 version and F engines.....
Attached is the an original picture of the cover of Secrest of SpaceFlight 1956. the inside cover blurb states: "Spaceship on cover is realistic model of the future, made by rocket expert G. Harry Stine, and photographed on White Sands desert by Stine and Ed Thomas." If you look closely on the left hand side is the Launch pad from his Book Rocket Man( and the wing tip of his FAFNIR) and the vehicles and such are miniature models. EDIT Added pic of FAFNIR |
AC Supply now has the ANTAR listed as “Coming Soon”, priced at $23.99. https://www.acsupplyco.com/estes-mo...odel-rocket-kit

I love acronyms.....
|
The upcoming Designer Series Antar has evidently had the list price reduced to 29.99.
40 off would be 17.99 If that price holds true, I see two of them in my next A.C. Supply order. |

Good to see there’s another Vagabond fan! My Vagabond was one of my first builds as a BAR that I was really proud of and it’s a great flyer. Yeah, the H-F XL is a bit awkward looking though it’s another good performer. Toby’s stuff looks really nice (why anyone pays top dollar for a NOS Leviathan or MDRM is beyond me) and I’m thinking I need one of his upsized Cherokees more so than an H-F XXL. I think my unbuilt H-F XL is going to end up as an upsized Estes #1924 Defender... |
Hmmmmm.... Hi-Flier XL on a G? That’s a crazy fun-sounding idea. I may have to pick one up next time I’m near Hobby Lobby.
I also love the Vagabond, and have one ready for sealer on the fins right now. I squirreled some away when they were being closed out, so still have three in the stash. Actually, my spreadsheet says I have a Hi-Flier XL in the stash as well. That’s even better than going to HL to buy one.... And I do have the Antar on the to-busy list as soon as AC Supply gets it in. I’ve enough motors on my “order” list to make a proper free shipping order when that happens. |

Are you saying you already have the kit? |

Chris built it already - he’s been waiting for Estes to make it available, then he can post his build on the blog... |
Chris has built many of thier show models.

I've built quite a few show models for Estes, some were pre-production kits. Four ANTARs have been built and mailed back. Presently two more are being built. With the kit release, a build has been started on my blog: modelrocketbuilding.blogspot.com |
Decided to use my Christmas gift card from my son and daughter-in-law for my ANTAR (plus a few other bits and pieces) - less than hour after I placed the order the shipping notice popped up. Yes, I know it’s just from the label being created but still fairly impressive. Last couple packages that shipped via the USPS arrived on time and intact hopefully it’s an ongoing trend😉
|
Just placed my order. Wonder if it'll get here before my March order?
|
I couldn’t wait. I bought one directly from Estes and I’ve started on it. It’s fun
|
Just got my UPS shipping notification. Looks like AC Supply is giving up on USPS......
|
My order from Estes was shipped the morning after I placed it, arrived in three days - CO to OH. Maybe the USPS is FINALLY back on track. The ANTAR kit is well done - nice parts, very solid, thick balsa in my kit, good looking decals, looks to be a fun, easy build but a bear of a paint scheme, the masking and decal placement will definitely be a challenge! I’ll be using Chris Michielssen’s blogposts to get the paint as close as I can - though the forest green in the scheme may turn into dark orange 😉 Thought about changing mine to 24mm power but I’ll just use a QJet if I feel the need for more altitude.

The only thing I tolerate being shipped USPS is motors.
The $37 fee for motors thru UPS or FedEx is nothing but a RIPOFF the govt allows them to charge as a haz-mat fee. They do not have to charge that fee. It's a big can of SCAMULATION. Many years ago someone shipped rocket motors labeled "model aircraft parts" until discovered. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I LIKED THAT SHIPMENT METHOD along with the "ride the boot" attitude it conveyed to the gubmint "shipping cops" |
Antar is now in stock at AC Supply. Yay!
