Continuous Process/Product Improvement

Considering there is a whole stable of Semroc products out there, I thought it might be good to have a thread dedicated to "improving" them.

Granted this might be the shortest thread in the history of this forum, but I thought I would put it out there.

Skyhook:
Smaller chute or streamer.
That thing moves out, it's fairly lite, and relatively small. To that end it uses the same chute as other SLS rockets over twice its weight. Granted it's a high quality chute, and for that I'm thankful but it REALLY drifts. Would a 12 inch nylon be easy to source? What about a nylon streamer?

Website change:

The Semroc instructions include an "exploded" diagram of the rocket, it would be nice to see those online and either clickable to order spare parts or with a key that allows you to see the Semroc part number for ordering.

So it would be diagram, key beneath with html links to the actual part. Then you can click on that be taken to the part page, then add to cart.

Lil' Ivan, great rocket but the supplied streamer doesn't fit. A 1 1/8" surveyers tape streamer or small chute do fit.

I thought the same thing about the streamer, but the little Ivan would benefit from a small chute. I was actually able to fit a small nylon chute in mine! And the Javelin came with a 12" chute and really only needs a streamer. I think Semroc just tries to release these kits as close to the original as possible. If things like Kevlar shock leaders can be introduced to the kits to improve them, then maybe a benficial change in the recovery device should be looked at too. :)

Especially if you're flying it on a "C" motor. :o

Haven't been that brave yet! ;) It screams off the pad on a B6 as it is, I know I'd never see again on a C. Flew it at the club launch last weekend with an 8" chute.... I had a nice little hike. I've flown it a handful of times and keep telling myself to put a streamer on it.... next time, for sure.

I have a beat up original Javelin that I used to fly in predicted duration at CSAR meets. Larry always has Pred Dur as an event. Anyways, with a 2x24" crepe streamer I consistently get 33 seconds +/- 1 sec on a B6 and the hike isn't that bad.

Semroc web site

PMed Carl awhile back about a thread with suggestions for the web site. He didn't say no, so this seems like a good place to post.

Update the home page.

Some of the kits need a more detailed description. For example I have heard the Goliath comes with a choice of three motor mounts. However I have found no reference to this on the site.

As long as we're talking about website updates, the "Free Kit" page needs to be updated. If you click on the Free Kits icon on the right, the kits it shows are not the same ones you have to choose from when you actually place an order. I could go for some of those that are shown on that page since I already have a number of all the other free ones. Maybe rotate the free kits 2-3 times a year.
