Semroc needs an egg lofter...
I'm getting tired of training my newbie TARC kiddos on Quest Couriers - not that these are bad kits. I would like to suggest that Semroc come up with an egg lofter - possibly a retro-repro of the 71 Egg Crate, as this did not have plastic parts and many components are already in inventory. Such a kit would teach good construction skills, and show how egg capsules can be constructed from balsa and paper tubes, rather than using pre-existing plastic ones. It could also get them familiar with clustering techniques.
What'cha think, Carl (as if you didn't have enough to do)? |
Since Trip (and the AIA) selected Semroc as one of the three "official" vendors for TARC, he had asked us not to do a TARC-ready kit. He wants them to do the work. We do have many parts that TARC teams can use for their designs, but we are trying not to influence them with pre-packaged kits.
We do need to do more promotion and presenting our possibilities. |

Yes, I vote for a Semroc Centuri Egg-Crate as well. ;) |
I'm pretty sure the TARC rules expressly prohibit using commercial kits, so a Semroc egg lofter kit would only be useable for us mentors...

Do you mentor them in the mid-air disassembly portion of the event or dumpster spot landing? |

Neither. At this point, I just use TARC kids as cheap labor to keep my NAR national championship trophy polished  . |
