R/C airplane foam wing contact cement ?
 

Hello all.
Years ago Sig used to sell Core-Bond, Kwik-Bond, and Foam-Bond contact cements for bonding Balsa or 1/64 Plywood skins to foam wing cores. They all contained Perchloroethlyene as the solvent carrier so as to not attack the foam. Regular Contact Cement won't work due to usually having a solvent package similar to dope thinner.
None of those exist any longer.

Does anyone know of a Contact Cement that now exists that is foam-core compatible ?

Before anyone asks, NO, I do not want to use Epoxy or Foam-Compatible CA.

When I built the Stratoblaster (my only foam core/balsa skin plane), either the instructions or the gurus on R.M.R. said to use 3M 77. It worked fine, but that was in the mid 90's. IIRC, I read in forums not to use it anymore, that the formula had changed. I don't recall if it was because it would no longer hold or if it started attacking foam. Maybe someone has started making a spray adhesive that will work again.

Yeah, 3M 77 USED to be okay until they reformulated the solvent package to one that now attacks foam.
Definitely no good anymore, and even before it was kinda weak compared to the others.

Hmm, 3m77 still works fine on depron, maybe the foam cores are a different composition than xps type material.

Back in the day I used UHU POR which you could get in tubes but it would take a lot to do a foam core.

I was going to say UHU POR too, but you might take a look at Clearstick. Try it on some test pieces first.

3M Hi-Strength 90 might work. I prefer it to the much weaker Type 77.

Experiment first on scrap, yadda yadda. You should be able to get it at Home Depot.
