It took me a lot of convincing. I moved my internet from DSL to cable not too many years ago. The only people that have called us on the land line in the last 7 or 8 years have been my parents, her parents, and every single telemarketer on the planet because a "no call list" means nothing to them. Was a no-brainer for me, but not for her.

That sounds like our call history! A few years ago, when our youngest daughter was living in our town (lives in Denver now, about an hour away) she burst into the house sobbing. It was her birthday, TMobile network was down completely, and she could not reach friends by voice or text. She had dashed to our house to use the landline.

I was close to convincing my wife to yank the landline, but that TMobile shutdown pushed back ANY chance of ditching the land line for quite awhile.

The only reason I'll miss the landline is to find my cell phone in the house when I misplace it. :p

Lemme saw that limb off for you. I have a 16 year old daughter, and she does text me sometimes. If the answer is "yes" or "no" or "ask your mother" I will reply with a text, slowly, but otherwise I just call her back.

I have a Tom Tom which works pretty well, though it's a bit bitchy sounding. I also have a Samsung tablet (wifi only) and yeah, I've used Google Maps on it. I'm fairly experienced at dead-reckoning navigation, so it's not something I find a lot of use for; in fact, I've been known to have spirited arguments with the Tom Tom.

"Modern electronic conveniences."

:D

I sell and service computers for a living, and am accounted a competent programmer by those who pay me to do programming for them (including five county collectors, three county assessors, three county recorders of deeds, and one commercial customer).

What I'm not is a gadget freak. To me, a smartphone is a money sink I don't need. My daughter has finally decided she wants one, but it took her a while... she hates touchscreen keyboards, and presently uses a phone with a slide-out keyboard. My wife has the same model phone, and she too has decided she wants a smartphone; in her case, the resistance comes from the added costs for the data plan. I am even cheaper, and I do not see enough advantages in a smartphone to counterbalance the added cost.

In other words, I may not have a smartphone, but Amish I ain't.

Heh. My wife first brought up the subject, and the decision was mutual.

Not sure if it was mentioned here or not yet. HL is blowing out some of their Estes kits to make room for the new ones they will be carrying. Of note, I just bought a Citation Patriot, Goblin and MultiRoc for $17.27 with tax. They have a couple others as well but these are the "nice" ones at rock bottom pricing. If nothing else buy a bunch just for the parts!

I was wondering when that would start, as Bill Stine mentioned at the virtual Estes tour for NARCON that they were changing over on February 1st, with eight out and eight new ones in.

A week or so ago I went to two HL stores in the area and one had seven items marked "D" but not otherwise marked down: Space Crater, Multi-Roc, Solo, Yankee, Cadet, Goblin and the Viking bulk box. I didn't find an eighth (and the Citation Patriot wasn't marked this way). In the nearer store there was no sign at all of upcoming changes.

Time to make the rounds again. There are two stores that are pretty close and three others that are within reasonable striking distance. I'd be happy to add a Multi-Roc and a Citation Patriot to the stash.

But there's not quite as much motivation to make the wide rounds as when they were clearancing some motors including the 29mm ones awhile back.

I AM wondering what new (or new-to-them) kits they'll be carrying.

HL is my favorite store to buy rockets and stuff.

A Citation Patriot was on sale for about $8.99. No tax.

I have four HL stores within twenty miles of my location.
One north of me, three south of me. Rapture!

Still thinking on it.

During the NARCON Estes tour, Bill mentioned one of the HL models would be the MARS Leaper.

Guess I better drive the 15 miles to my closest HL to check out what they have.

The Citation Patriot is priced at $6.39, the Multi-Roc at $5.59 and the Goblin at $4.39. All steals!

That's what I call great pricing. Will head there tomorrow.
