Estes Cherokee-E?

Last night I was perusing ebay and I thought I saw a listing for a new Estes Cherokee-E kit. I can't seem to find the listing now.

.....or was it the Scotch?

Thanks

I believe it's one of the Hobby Lobby exclusive releases.

Look at completed listings and see. The guy canceled his listing starting out at $.99. But with the scotch you may have seen $99 so you didn't bid (:

Good point.

This kit here:

Bought one last week, great price!

It's a stretch Cherokee-D.

It is indeed! I built this one a few weeks ago. BTW, Rustoleum Bright Blue gloss matches the blue of the decals almost perfectly.

No Hobby Lobby in my state, and I can't drive to the next nearby state that has one, but I found the online website and it listed the ESAM and Cherokee E. Put them in my cart, proceeded to checkout and.....
EEK!
$35 shipping for a $27 order? And after the 40% coupon was applied!
That is definitely way more than their actual shipping cost.
First and last time I try ordering from them.
HL, please give your potential customers from Alaska and Hawaii a break.
I don't mind paying for actual shipping charges, but that is RIDICULOUS!

What is the estimated altitude on an E9?

ghrocketman 11-06-2019 02:23 PM

Guaranteed the altitude is WAYYYYYYY TOO HIGH if this thing uses the same outrageously large 18" chute the old Cherokee-D had.
Even on a 12" chute the Cherokee-D had high potential of drifting away.
I learned the hard way after losing 3 of them on D12-7's back in the day.
I switched to long (90") streamers instead.

Probably close to zero if the E9 is anything like the E9's from my last pack. Those things pack a whallop!

ghrocketman 11-06-2019 04:09 PM

Nobody around me has any E9s anymore.
E12s a-plenty which is a FAR better motor.

The only E that was less useful than the E9 was the old FSI TURD E-6

I lost a Cherokee D at NARAM 50 with just nose blow! No chute or even a streamer!

ghrocketman 11-06-2019 11:25 PM

The Cherokee-D is the only rocket I have built more times than the Mars Lander; 7 of them.
Not due to it being an absolute favorite, more due to never getting more than 3 flights out of one on D motors without losing them.
Most often now they fly on B4-4s or C11-5s.
When the D11-9 was still available, it was easier to recover due to having only ~13n-sec of impulse instead of the 17n-sec D12.

Quit being such a puss. I haven't had an E12 give me a photo op like the E9s do.

And the Cherokee-D itself is a stretched Cherokee-D. :D

The original K-47 had a 16.35" BT-55V body tube. Later ones used a full 18" length tube.

I GLEEFULLY ENJOY seeing OTHERS Powr-Prangg and Cato; most of those videos should be ended with a GIGANTIC LOUD ENHANCED BELCH, followed by a resounding YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH !
Have NO NEED for it in any of my vee-hikk-ulls.

K'Tesh 11-07-2019 06:01 PM

My sim for the Cherokee-E is already done... As is the ESAM-58, the Luna Bug, and the EPIC II (all Hobby Lobby Exclusives). FWIW, Hobby Lobby frequently offers free shipping to purchases of $50 or more w/in the US. I have my stuff sent to eRockets where they gather them up until I have enough kits together to justify sending them in one large box at one time (its a lot cheaper than sending everything to China piecemeal).

Most of the files are on pg 16 directly, or if not, linked there.

E12 can be photogenic as well. And that was a Cherokee-E :(

timorley 11-08-2019 12:40 PM

Oh, and Estes did graciously replace the rocket and motors.

ghrocketman 11-08-2019 01:40 PM

Ah, yesssssss !
Another 24mm M-80.

erik442 11-08-2019 06:26 PM

Impressive!
